VISION & OBJECTIVE :
Looking for a challenging career in Networking and Security, where there is a scope for
demonstration ; Always on a lookout for a positive & bigger outlook,sets levels &
standards that exceed expectations.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
NETWORK APPLICATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ENGINEER
CSC(COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION) INDIA, HYDERABAD
August 2006 – January 2009
Responsibility :
Monitor over 600 applications with Layer 7 Plus visibility for an accurate picture of
network traffic.
Look deeper into application traffic network utilization and response times, performance
diagnostics, connection profiling and forensics as well as SLA tracking with proactive
altering and management.
QoS and traffic shaping with simple prioritization to ensure critical applications. Limit or
block recreational and malicious traffic.
Deploy and control multiple units with centralized management and reporting features
that leverage the capabilities of every PacketShaper on the network.
Mark packets with prescribed DiffServ, IPTOS/Precedence, MPLS tags, VLANs and
others. Tie applications to correct IP VPN class of service; compare performance
between applications with different Type of Service (ToS) settings.
Additionally, was responsible for Testing and Deploying the new Packetshaper versions.
PROJECT ROLE :
- To test the procedures and expected results in order to prove the stability of the
software versions before they are deployed for use on a production environment.
- To define the Standard Operating Environment (SOE) that CSC uses for
operating the Packeteer equipment in the NAM service.
- Test the migration process from the existing deployed version to the proposed
version. The results will be use to ensure that the migration process will mitigate
risk of
system failure, configuration loss and disruption of the NAM service.
The major portion of the testing was to verify the class definitions before and after
the upgrade to ensure that no matching rules have become obsolete due to new
Packeteer defined services being introduced.
PROJECT SCOPE :
The scope of these tests is validation of the Packeteer supplied Packetwise
software on the Packeteer hardware. Test across multiple hardware platforms is
not specifically addressed.
Identify the specific areas of concern that CSC have experienced and believes
that is CSC has reason to re-validate, or confirm to enable all components of NAM
service to be delivered.
This testing is to provide early warning and mitigate against unexpected service
critical behaviour in the field.
The test plans identify the test environments and where relevant the external
parties involved in the testing such as the vendor or the customer.
PROJECT OUTLINE
I. Gather necessary information from client
II. Configure Packeteer for operation
III. Monitor Packeteer at client site
IV. Analyze Traffic patterns
V. Control Mission Critical/prohibited traffic
VI. Analyze Traffic patterns
DETAILED SCOPE OF WORK
I. Gather information from the client
A. Accurate network diagram
1. Shows both LAN and WAN
2. Shows Addresses and gateways
B. Accurate listing of protocols/applications used on the network
1. Mission critical applications
2. Acceptable applications
3. Suspected prohibited applications
II. Configure Packeteer for operation
A. Set interface and gateway addresses
B. Set the correct link speed
C. Set necessary usernames and passwords
III. Monitor the progress of the Packeteer
A. Check in daily to see if proper classification is occurring
B. It may take 3 – 5 days for a good pattern to immerge
1. Save the data when there is a good pattern
2. The monitor should be stopped at the technicians
discretion
IV. Analyze the gathered data
A. Print out “Snap Shot” network performance pages
”
1. Network Inbound/Outbound Utilization
2. Efficiency
3. Top 10 Classes
4. Traffic Class Tree
B. Print out additional graphs as necessary
1. Largest 80% WAN utilization chart
2. Top Talker
2. Top Talkers/Listeners
C. Make particular note of up to 3 mission critical applications as
defined by the client
D. Make particular note of up to 3 prohibited applications as defined
by the client
E. Write up a brief summary of recommendations for the client
Also, Tested a new feature 'PACKING' when it was introduced in Packetshaper
V8.X and above.
This Implementation is for testing a new feature named “Packing”. It is available in
Packetshaper v8.x and above. Packet Packing is the act of bundling or concatenating
packets.
Test is to compare the bandwidth utilization and latency when Packing is ON to OFF in
a WAN Environment.
