PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Fastenal Co.
Richmond, IN & Columbus, IN
1998 to 2006
My position with Fastenal Co. was that of General Manager with the
responsibility for all functions of the Columbus, IN facility. This is the
largest branch of the 20 facilities in the Southeastern IN region. Prior
to being promoted to General Manager and relocating to the Columbus, IN
branch, I was the Assistant Manager and then promoted to General Manager of
the Richmond, IN facility. I managed a multi-million dollar annual
operating budget while reducing expenses and costs.
I supervised a staff consisting of an Assistant Manager, inside and
outsides sales persons, Office Manager and a support staff person. While
under my direction at both Richmond and Columbus, five employees have been
trained and promoted to managerial positions.
During the years I was Manager in Richmond, I consistently maintained a 98%
sales goal average while showing a 16% sales growth pattern over a five-
year period. Due to these results, I was asked by the Regional Vice
President to assume the responsibility for the Columbus, IN branch.
A key objective of Fastenal is the control of the in-store inventory and
the maintenance of customers' stocked inventories. While General Manager
of the Columbus, IN branch, I reduced the inventory levels of the store, at
corporate request, by over $75,000 while increasing both the profit and
number of accounts respectively. During my career with Fastenal, I
developed an in-depth knowledge of vendor purchasing - JIT (Just in Time).

I was required to purchase product daily on a national level from numerous
vendors while being conscious of both inventory levels and profitability.
I developed an in-depth
knowledge of commodity purchasing, pricing and contract negotiations.
I have participated in several advanced training opportunities at
Fastenal's corporate level. The emphasis of these courses included lowering
expenses, increasing profits, customer-focus selling and advanced
leadership training. While participating in the customer-focus selling
conference, I was chosen as "Best in Sales" by a nation-wide group of my
peers.
I have supported numerous community service projects and made Fastenal more
visible in the community by staging several very successful open houses.
These efforts have resulted in positive feedback from both suppliers and
customers on the appearance of the facility and overall response to the
open houses.
