Qualifications:
Over ** years experience as an electrical circuit designer and 14 years
as a Hardware Project Leader of leading edge flight controls, jet engine
controls, satellite power systems and cockpit panels for military and
civilian applications.
Able to switch between the two roles or perform them concurrently as
driven by the needs of the business.
Delivered on time designs that have accumulated extensive flight hours
and are highly reliable in the harshest conditions.
Professional Experience:
6/1980 - 11/1992 General Electric, Johnson City, NY
11/1992 - 3/1995 Martin Marietta, Johnson City, NY
3/1995 - 11/2000 Lockheed Martin, Johnson City, NY
11/2000 - 11/2009 BAE Systems, Johnson City, NY
4/2010 - Present Goodrich ISR Systems, Danbury CT
Hardware Project Leader:
Provide team leadership with the goal to deliver a compliant highly
reliable product to the customer that meets the cost/power/weight/size and
schedule requirements of the program.
. Partner with a multi-disciplined team (systems, software, mechanical,
thermal, EMI, manufacturing, components and purchasing) to define the
best implementation for a proposed program.
. Write proposal documentation and present to customer and participate in
all customer design reviews after program go ahead.
. Work within the hardware design team (analog, digital, power supply,
mechanical and thermal disciplines) to define the most cost effective
solution for the customer.
. Guide team of 5 to 10 engineers through design, test and build for
development and production phases of program.
o Design Phase
. Drawing Release (schematics, bill of materials, assemble
drawings, VHDL code)
. Design Analysis (tolerance, timing, power dissipation,
component electrical stress, reliability and failure modes
and effects analysis)
o Test Phase
. Design Verification test plan, execution and results
. Production test plan and equipment review
. Qualification testing - Tests may include EMI, lightning,
humidity, thermal, vibration, HALT (highly accelerated life
testing), RGT (reliability growth testing) and others as
required by the federal or military regulatory agencies.
o Production Phase
. Resolve any part or build issues that may arise
. Provide root cause analysis for test failures and field
returns
. Work with manufacturing to ensure build and test processes
are streamlined for reduced cost and high quality.
. Manage program schedule and budget and provide input to metrics database
on a weekly basis to ensure that the program is on target to meet its
goals.
. Ensure that all compliance evidence is properly documented and recorded
in the DOORS database.
Senior Design Engineer
Perform necessary analysis and test to show that the design is compliant
to the customer specifications along with mentoring of younger engineers
in the necessary design practices that provide for a high quality design.
. Analog circuit interface designs include temperature sensors
(thermocouples and RTDs), pressure sensors (strain gauges), magnetic
speed sensors, DC and AC position sensor (LVDT, resolvers and synchros),
solenoid drives (linear and PWM) and DC motor drives (linear and PWM).
Design of sampled data acquisition system including signal multiplexing
and A/D and D/A conversion.
. Digital designs include 8 and 16 bit microcontrollers, 1553 Remote
Terminal interface, ARINC 429 interface, SPI (Serial Peripheral
Interface), RS232, RS485, Cross Channel Data Links (remote and local,
both parallel and serial interfaces), Optical Encoder interface and fixed
segment LCD controller.
. Low power output power supply design experience, both linear and switch
mode DC-DC converter type designs. Also experienced in selecting and
implementing off the shelf power module designs.
. Perform circuit tolerance analysis, part stress analysis, timing
analysis, power dissipation analysis and failure modes and effects
analysis.
. Write test procedures and programs, perform testing and document test
results at module and unit levels.
. Capture Schematics and define PWB layout and routing rules for PWB
designer. Work closely with the PWB design to insure signals are routed
to reduce EMI susceptibility and noise radiation.
. Work with Test Equipment Engineers to define test equipment requirements.
Review wiring diagrams, schematics and assembly drawings.
