Quality Manager
ASQ certified quality manager with proven ability to achieve significant
cost savings and productivity improvements using cross-functional teams.
Led deployment and upgrade of quality systems. Applied advanced subject
matter knowledge and independent judgment to drive continuous improvement
in multi-tasking environment.
. Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
. Strong statistics and technical background
. Effective root cause analysis and change management
Key Skills: Statistical analysis, Six Sigma (DMAIC), Design of Experiments
(DOE), gage repeatability and reproducibility (R&R), tracking key
performance indicators. Problem-solving, strategic thinking, root cause
analysis, continuous improvement, process auditing. Team-work, decision
making, self-motivated, action oriented. Supplier qualification, customer
complaint investigation and correction. Effective written and oral
communication. Skillful use of computers including Minitab (statistical
analysis), Design-Expert (DOE), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Skillful use of lab equipment including infrared (FTIR), gas chromatography
(GC), and thermo-mechanical analyzer (TMA). Experienced with plastics
manufacturing processes including extrusion, calendering, laminating,
coating, drying, cutting, testing, and curing.
Selected Achievements
Raw Material Cost Reduction. Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt training
used to complete demonstration project which reduced raw material costs by
$200,000 per year. Conducted trials on new backing films which saved over
$200,000 per year.
Improved process monitoring. Set up FTIR analysis tool to provide more
consistent control of urethane reaction, saving $50,000 per year.
Process Improvement. Implemented coating process step to reduce yield
losses, saving $300,000 per year. TMA testing demonstrated effect of
process temperature and tension on product properties and paved way for
qualifying new backing films.
Quality Management System. Brought ISO system back from brink of failure.
Led successful upgrade and simplification of quality management system to
ISO 9001:2000.
Career History
Quality Manager, Betts USA, December 2008 to May 2009. Investigated
defective tubes for toothpaste manufacturing plant and provided improved
root cause analysis for these defects. Updated inspection equipment and
standard operating procedures for testing tubes. Documented operational
qualifications and performance qualifications for tube-making lines.
Worked with supplier to resolve quality problems on incoming materials.
Quality Engineer/Process Specialist, MacDermid (formerly Polyfibron
Technologies, W.R. Grace, Uniroyal Plastics), April 2005 to April 2008.
Worked on interdisciplinary product/process improvement teams. Set up test
program for new equipment (e.g. TMA) used to establish optimal process
settings for new raw materials and products. Investigated potential new
process and test equipment. Performed gage R&R studies on key test
equipment.
Quality Improvement Manager/Chemist, MacDermid (formerly Polyfibron
Technologies, W.R. Grace, Uniroyal Plastics), Nov. 1995 to April 2005.
Managed QC lab and oversaw functioning of quality management system.
Supervised 5 lab technicians and ISO coordinator. Performed annual reviews
of staff and mentored them to increase their effectiveness. Determined
staffing and budgetary requirements for effective operation of the QC lab.
Applied root cause analysis and process troubleshooting methods through
product and process improvement projects within quality and production
areas. Served as lead technical authority in the plant. Wrote raw
material specifications, product specifications, and laboratory work
instructions. Created data collection tools for statistical process
control (SPC).
Senior Process Chemist/Quality Supervisor/Process Engineer, Polyfibron
Technologies (formerly W.R. Grace, Uniroyal Plastics), April 1985 to Nov.
1995. Oversaw the operation of the QC lab. Supervised 1 to 3 lab
technicians. Assessed work load and recommended staffing level increases
as business and testing needs grew. Monitored product quality. Conducted
process improvement trials, and vendor qualification trials. Worked on
extrusion line equipment upgrades. Investigated and verified customer
complaints. Updated and revised QC procedures, product formulas, and raw
material specifications.
