March 1990- June 1998- I worked as a Detention Deputy in all aspects of a
high population jail facility. I was in charge of overseeing inmates to
ensure that they followed established rules and regulations. I provided
for their safety and well being.
June 1998- August 1998- I was promoted to the rank of Detention Corporal in
June 1998 and was transferred to a new facility that was in the process of
being built. I was placed on a transition team that worked on ensuring
that the facility was built as designed and helped find security issues
that may be possible because it was not considered in the planning stages.
September 1998- February 2003- I worked as a Detention Corporal supervising
staff in different settings. I worked in general housing and confinement
during this time. I was in charge of coordinating scheduling of the squad
of deputies that I oversaw. I also had to complete payroll, schedule
training and ensure they were kept abreast of changes in policy.
April 2003- October 2009- I was promoted to Detention Sergeant in April
2003 where I was placed in charges of two squads. I worked in different
areas during this time and continued to be in charge of all scheduling,
rosters and evaluations of staff. I also had to create training programs
for staff to keep them up to date on training and policy training that had
changed or was established.
From July 2004- March 2005, I was placed in a position of Acting
Lieutenant. I was placed in charge of a shift that consisted of 15
supervisors and over 80 deputies. During this time, the shift I supervised
was commended for several significant, positive changes. During our
Strategic Management meeting, my shift was commended for best attendance,
fewest reports with errors and other such accolades.
November 2009- July 2010- In November of 2009 I earned the rank of Master
Sergeant. This designation was earned by having minimum tenure as a
Detention Sergeant, minimum education requirements, written recommendation
from the division commander and the ability to pass certain physical
fitness requirements.
