PUTNAM INVESTMENTS, Boston, MA 2000 - 2009
Vice President, Global Core Equities
. Institutional Portfolio Management
o Appointed lead Portfolio Management responsibilities in 2002 of
client assets totaling over $1 billion. Accounts were
benchmarked to either the MSCI World Benchmark or custom
variations of the World benchmark. Investment performance was
competitive relative to benchmark as well as Lipper style
category.
o Designed and implemented 130/30 and Market Neutral Global Equity
strategies in 2007. The Market Neutral portfolio achieved an
excess return of 400 basis points ahead of benchmark over a two
year period.
o Assigned management of the Canadian Equity Institutional mandate
in 2007. Improved performance that led to our being considered
for $150 million in additional client assets.
o Team highlights: grew assets from $1 billion to $9 billion in
Institutional assets across 60 Institutional relationships.
. Retail Portfolio Management
o Served as 10 year dedicated resource and Analyst for the Putnam
Global Equity Fund (PEQUX) and related Retail accounts.
Collective efforts were rewarded by Morningstar with a 5-star
rating in 2002.
o Held integral role in growth of Fund assets from $1 billion to
$4 billion. Marketing efforts included written work to Retail
Clients and Consultants as well as presentations and conference
call discussions.
o Contributed to research and build-out of Global Equity alpha
model that blended Fundamental and Quantitative inputs. The
alpha model generated consecutive years of excess returns,
culminating in a Lipper top quartile investment performance rank
in 2007.
. Client / Consultant Presentations
o Conducted over 75 Institutional client presentations at Putnam.
Notable meetings resulting in new business were held with Ford
Motor, Manulife, and State of Florida.
o Managed over 50 consultant interactions related to our Global
Equity Investment Process. Notable meetings were held with
Russell, Mercer, API, and leading Japanese and Australian
consultant firms.
. Investment Research
o Analyzed and recommended mid-cap and large cap stocks globally
on behalf of the Global Equity Fund (PEQUX) and related
Institutional accounts. Recommendations were measured relative
to sector and benchmark, with aggregate stock selections adding
value on a relative basis.
o Utilized a Generalist approach for Equity Research. Sectors of
focus were Telecommunications, Utilities, and REITS, coupled
with substantial regional analysis of Emerging Market stocks.
. Risk Management
o Led risk management effort on all Global Core accounts. This
risk management work protected account performance around the
Tech bubble of 2000, the recessions of 2002 and 2008, as well as
the Commodity collapse of 2008.
o Conducted historical studies on Market Volatility, Emerging
Market Risk, and Sector Total Risk. Conclusions from these
studies led to actionable changes to portfolios and contributed
to a better team understanding of our risk exposures.
. Portfolio Construction
o Chaired Portfolio Construction meetings impacting all Global
Equity accounts. Meetings led to healthy team debates around
the topics of position size of individual holdings, Global
country and sector exposures, and other relevant portfolio
characteristics.
o Effectively constructed various Global Equity custom mandates
for Institutional clients. Managed accounts to tracking error
levels above 6% as well as lower tracking error levels in the 2%
range.
o Held leadership role transitioning team performance focus from
Benchmark to Lipper Competitive Universe. Mandated by the CEO
of Putnam, creatively utilized Bloomberg and other data systems
to build a new Portfolio Management framework for our accounts.
FIDELITY INVESTMENTS, Boston, MA Summer 1999
Summer Internship, Finance
. Conducted a profitability analysis on Fidelity customer retention;
findings were incorporated into a matrix used by Fidelity client
service representatives on future client correspondence.
. Calculated the relevant cash flows on a particular marketing spend
proposal and provided NPV results; work contributed to Fidelity's
decision to move forward with the marketing proposal.
. Received Fidelity Ambassador Award for work accomplished during the
