8/95-9/09 Cisco Systems Inc., 7023 Kit Creek Road, RTP, NC 27709
2007-2009 Senior Manager, Access Router Software Development: Managed a
department of engineers implementing security features for access routers
as well as layer 3-7 features for a new multi-core router.
2005-2007 Senior Manager IP Phone Software Development: Managed a team of
45 development and test engineers developing IP phones and their features
as well as providing sustaining support for these products. The work
included development of SIP protocol support and various security features
as well as numerous new IP phones.
2003-2004 Senior Manager Voice over IP Protocol Development: Recruited and
managed a team of 35 engineers developing VoIP protocol and feature support
for H.323 and SIP protocols.
1998-2002 Software Manager Voice over IP Protocol Development: Started the
initial VoIP team in Cisco RTP responsible for the H.323 protocol and
related product. Recruited 16 engineers to create the original VoIP team
in RTP. Co-authored a patent on symmetric codec negotiation for H.245
protocol.
1997-1998 Software Manager: Managed a department of 12 engineers
responsible for developing the C2600 router software including all
platform, network interface and diagnostics software. Network interfaces
included VoIP, BRI (ISDN), PRI (ISDN), Token Ring, Ethernet, High Speed
Serial, ATM OC3, T1, E1, and IMA.
1996-1997 Software Manager: Recruited and managed a software team
developing interfaces for the Cisco 3600 router family including Ethernet,
ATM OC3, Digital Modem, High Speed Serial, ISDN BRI and PRI, etc.
1995-1996 Software Engineer: Developed T1/E1, Primary Rate ISDN and 25 Mbps
ATM interface software for the 3600 router.
3/82 - 7/95 IBM Corp; Networking Hardware systems Div, RTP, NC Advisory
Programmer
Team Lead, ATM Adapter Software Development: Managed a team of 14
engineers developing device drivers and LAN Emulation code for ATM 25 Mbps
and ATM 155 Mbps (OC3) interfaces as well as a LAN Emulation Server (ATM
UNI 3.0/3.1). This work included support for initial product rollout and
early customer support. Earlier work included development of features for
ISDN interfaces and control software for a fast packet switch.
8/81 - 3/82 Datec Inc. Carrboro, NC Senior Design Engineer
Development of microprocessor based hardware and software for data
communications equipment. This included the hardware design of the Datec
212R Modem and microcode for its Automatic Calling Unit.
7/77 - 7/81 Troxler Electronic Labs, Inc RTP, NC Design Engineer
Design and development of microprocessor based instrumentation for the
company's line of nondestructive nuclear test gauges including development
of real time software for the company's principal product, the 3411B
Density/Moisture Gauge.

Directed a team of 12 employees responsible for the operation and
maintenance of utilities equipment at company's polyester fiber production

Design and development of processes and automated production line equipment
for consumer products. This work involved interaction with staff
scientists and product groups to design minicomputer driven production
lines.
