WORK EXPERIENCE
Department of Homeland Security National Records Center
December 9, 2008 - December 15, 2009
(for McNeil Technologies, Inc.)
FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) Analyst
I was hired by McNeil Technologies on a one-year contract agreement to
process FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) cases to eliminate a 65,000-case
backlog. Every immigrant coming into the United States has an A-file
(case), which contains all documents created during the immigration
process. When an immigrant requests to receive a copy of their file, I
(the FOIA Analyst) review each page of the file and redact any information
that is protected from disclosure by any of the nine exemptions contained
in the law or by one of three special law enforcement record exclusions.
Once all pages of a case had been completely redacted, I then created a
summary letter to the immigrant and created a final summary case note for
the file.
As a FOIA Analyst, I was responsible for processing four cases or eight
hundred pages per day. During this project I received two monthly Spot
Awards for superior performance (averaging 1,200 pages per day) and one MVP
Award. Given the huge backlog, we were offered overtime to help speed the
processing. I worked 56 hours a week for the majority of the project.
