ACHIEVEMENTS
Supply Chain Management/Purchasing
Managed a program centralizing the purchasing requirements of regional
field purchasing offices for a Georgia based national communications
company. Planned conversion process, recruited and hired centralized
purchasing staff, researched and identified "Best Practices", collaborated
in implementing J.D. Edwards enterprise system, communicated operating
practices, and led the development of a purchasing staff. Built a
centralized staff of 10 employees at corporate headquarters replacing 32
decentralized purchasing operations, and capable of handling over $1
billion in annualized purchases.
Led the development of a cost savings program needed to improve corporate
profitability for a Georgia based national communications company.
Collaborated on corporate goals, led an evaluation of national contracting
practices, worked with IT department to create an automated bid evaluation
process, and communicated the new bid process to vendors. Actions taken led
to exceeding the corporate cost savings objectives, and created and annual
cost savings of $86 million.
Organized a centralized purchasing office to service internal companies,
bureaus, and sales offices operating worldwide for a Georgia based
television network company. Reviewed purchasing practices, planned
centralized operations, developed and communicated new purchasing and
supply chain procedures, and enhanced supplier diversity program. Developed
a staff of four division managers and 50 employees purchasing 75% of
national requirements for 90 companies creating a third year cost savings
of $52 million.
Initiated a centralized purchasing function serving branch locations and
corporate departments for a Georgia based federal bank. Developed
purchasing policies and procedures, recruited and trained staff, directed
purchasing required in opening new branches and merging of purchased
properties, and managed auxiliary records and print service operations.
Developed a staff of six employees responsible for purchasing bank interior
systems, furniture, and signage for 81 branches and corporate departments.
Collaborated with the legal department in developing a bid and contract
negotiation process for commodity product lines required by a Georgia based
national communications company. Evaluated purchasing practices, planned
and implemented a new centralized bid process on commodity purchases,
reviewed bid responses, and collaborated in negotiating purchase and terms
and conditions. During a one year period, utilized a staff of 10 buyers in
negotiating approximately 100 new contracts on 40 commodity product lines.
Represented the purchasing function on a Procurement Review Committee
organized by the Financial Department of a Georgia based national
communications company. Collaborated in defining program goals, developed
supply chain data for committee review, recommended operating policies and
best practices, and assisted committee in defining operating changes.
During a 90 day period identified four supply chain initiatives supporting
the reduction of operating expenses creating an estimated $30 million
annual cost avoidance while improving services.
Planning/Organizational Development
Established a program to increase purchases from minority owned vendors for
a Georgia based national communications company. Evaluated past utilization
of minority vendors, promoted a buyer to manager of supplier diversity,
selected and created a list of minority vendors, requested bids based on
fair and legitimate business practices, and developed a tracking system to
record expenditures with minority vendors. Actions taken increased minority
vendor purchases to approximately $58 million annually.
Led an operational audit of Hanna-Barbera Studio assets after merging with
a Georgia based television network company. Conducted interviews with
purchasing/shipping/receiving/warehouse personnel, defined operating
responsibilities, prepared a letter report of findings, and established
training needed to merge into parent company. Organized a seamless
integration of assets into existing operations, providing a new venue for
popular cartoon characters such as Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, The Jetsons,
Scooby Doo, and Huckleberry Hound.
Planned and managed the move of The National Technical Institute for the
Deaf to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Campus. Collaborated on
program goals, worked with architect in planning furniture and internal
space utilization requirements, purchased and managed installation of
furniture, and directed program completion on budget and within schedule.
Approximately 1,000 students were relocated to the RIT Campus without any
major incidents.
Chaired a search committee responsible for selecting and hiring a new
president for the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council. Selected
members, developed search requirements, led the screening and candidate
interviewing process, and recommended the best candidate to the Board of
Directors. The nationwide search for a president was completed in a period
of 9 weeks, and the new president was successful in growing the Council's
corporate membership and minority supplier participation.
Problem Solving/Decision Making
Organized a program needed to reduce freight costs for a Georgia based
national communications company. Led an evaluation of freight costs,
analyzed freight brokers and discounts, and negotiated a multiyear
contract. New Age Transportation and Logistics was contracted to broker
shipment of freight with a cost over one hundred dollars, first year
savings resulted in over $1 million.
Introduced a "virtual office" work program into the centralized Purchasing
office for a Georgia based national communications company. Collaborated
with other department managers in analyzing the work at home option,
communicated the work at home plan to buying staff, and prepared
documentation and schedules. The changes introduced led to a 20% increase
in buyer productivity, a 50% reduction in employee sick leave, and opened
office space for other uses.
