1 EXPERIENCE
Elsevier Orlando, FL
2006 - Present
Oracle Database Architect 2009 - Present
Perform design of logical and physical database changes that allow for
staging a complete overhaul of the current data model and application. The
design and implementation reduces waste cutting performance by at least
30%, downsizing the current 11TB and growing data to approximately 4TB, by
reducing redundant data.
Lead the design of a new process to add new Health Review Assessment data
into the processing, which would be used for predictions. Performance
tuning of the RAC 4 Node Cluster, adding 4 additional nodes and setting up
Instance groups, service groups, and parallel instance groups to spread the
workload through the cluster, minimizing cluster waits, and reducing waits.
Develop a methodology for providing metrics for the business to demonstrate
performance and capacity to the Executives. Recommend removal of IOTs in
favor of standard heap tables, which increased response time
30% - 50% on crucial processes.

Save a $1,000,000 client contract by re-designing a critical new process
for the client to implement incremental processing, taking a stand-alone
product and retrofitting it into a hosted-ASP environment.
Review and analyze all database changes occurring in the production
environment prior to implementation. Develop the policy for peer review of
all implementation scripts and PL/SQL. This drastically reduced the number
of issues, and rollbacks of implementations due to issues, by 90%.
Plan, coordinate, and lead the security enhancements that brought the
databases into compliance. Create and set database and coding standards.
Mentor and develop junior database administrators and software engineers.
Manager, Data Management (Elsevier / MEDai)
2006 - 2009
Supervised 6 direct reports. Managed production support issues ranging from
data and code problems to database errors. Led development projects and
tuning efforts within the code as well, as well as the database level.
Patch and upgrade the databases as required. Upgraded 4 node RAC from
10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.4 with minimal downtime.
Introduced a new backup system that allowed the 11TB database to be backed
up in 48 hours, as opposed to 7 days.
Led delivery of critical enhancements and new applications to meet the
demands of clients with cost of $200,000+.
Managed 3 product suites, each having 4 major releases per year that
required extensive backfill processes.
Architected an archive process for client deliverable schemas that
increased the efficiency and reduced the amount of man hours required.
Home Shopping Network St. Petersburg, FL
1999 - 2006 Senior Database Administrator
24x7 production support for a high available critical OLTP application
ranging from show scheduling, inventory, financial, marketing, data
warehouse, and logistical. Participated in Disaster Recovery planning and
testing. Served as the primary DBA for 30 logistical warehouse databases in
support of 5 physical warehouses.
Performed capacity planning and made recommendations based on the outcomes
of the capacity planning. Designed and coded scripts that allowing for non-
production environments to be periodically refreshed from production
efficiently.
