Prepared numerous sustainability presentations and graphic educational
and community outreach materials for CEOs, directors, and health care
professionals.
Consultant
o Wrote Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority (PEDA) grant
proposal for Western PA Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship
and Training Program to fund construction of a LEED-Silver
training facility with multiple renewable energy systems (solar,
wind, biofuels, and geothermal including earth tubes) and water
conservation initiatives.
o Developed spreadsheet of recommended practices and related
savings based on outcomes across the USA for use by hospitals to
green their operations, purchases, and waste disposal methods.
o Gave multiple talks to the general public including religious
and civic groups on how to green their lives and homes.
. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, PA 2007 - 2008 -
Created new department within the hospital charged with reducing the
hospital's environmental footprint; formed and lead the efforts of a
green steering committee and implementation team; and implemented
numerous waste and cost reduction initiatives.

o Keynote speaker at several national environmental conferences.
o Replaced disposable sharps containers with reusable containers
saving Children's Hospital $38,000 annually while keeping nearly
19,000 containers out of the landfill each year.
o Responsible for the initiation of recycling of multiple waste

. Center for Environmental Oncology of the University of Pittsburgh
Cancer Institute Pittsburgh, PA 2004 - 2007 - Created an extensive
Project Planning Document for senior-level UPMC management for the
greening of their entire organization. Developed educational and
community outreach materials and presentations on the health and
economic benefits of greening.

o Responsible for an "H2E (Hospitals for a Healthy Environment)
Partner Recognition Award" at Hillman Cancer Center - Shadyside
Hospital and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and an
"H2E Making Medicine Mercury Free Award" at Magee Women's
Hospital.
o Authored mission and environmental statements for UPMC
o Authored several grant proposals to fund the Center's operations
and a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Energy
Harvest Grant to fund the installation of solar panels on the
roof of the Hillman Cancer Center.
o Responsible for the initiation of recycling of multiple waste
streams at the Hillman Cancer Center
. Youngstown State University Center for Engineering Research and
Technology Transfer (YSU CERTT) Youngstown, OH 1998-2004 -
Directed sustainability initiatives for eastern Ohio hospitals and
commercial and industrial facilities.

o Directed the work of undergraduate and graduate engineering
students who performed solid waste and integrated manufacturing
assessments focusing on sustainability and greening initiatives,
pollution prevention; waste reduction, energy conservation, and

CERTT, which was distributed to 1800 businesses in eastern Ohio
and western Pennsylvania.

Environmental Education Grant, and Trumbull and Mahoning County

. Self-employed Sharon, PA 1993-1998 - Advised commercial businesses
and industrial plants on regulatory changes and interpretations to
maintain compliance with environmental regulations.

o Interpreted Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic
Substances Control Act (TSCA), and Superfund regulatory
requirements for small and medium-sized plants and advised of
requirements through technical papers.

compliance with new underground storage tank regulations.
. Aluminum Co. of America (Alcoa) Pittsburgh, PA 1990-1993 - Worked
in corporate headquarters advising plants on regulatory changes and
interpretations to maintain compliance with solid and hazardous waste
regulations. Directed the corporate management of Alcoa's involvement
at "Superfund" sites.

. Colgate-Palmolive Company (Colgate) Edison, NJ 1985-1990 - Worked
in corporate headquarters advising plants on regulatory changes and
interpretations to maintain compliance with RCRA, TSCA, and Superfund
environmental regulations.
Sr. Technical Associate
o Corporate Project Manager for site assessments and remediations
at Colgate's subsidiary locations throughout the United States.
> Headed various meetings with government agencies, law
firms and outside consultants.
> Worked alongside chemists and geologists to install wells

. Texaco, Inc. Westville, NJ 1980-1985 - Was cross trained in
several departments within the oil refinery to receive exposure to
maintenance, facilities, energy conservation and the environment.
Environmental Engineer
o Received "Star Program Award" from Texaco management for
recommending an environmentally conscious waste treatment
method, which resulted in a total cost savings of $2.25 million
dollars.
o Operated landfarm, oversaw operation of wastewater treatment
plant, managed on-site cleanup projects, and managed outside
contractors on major unit maintenance shutdowns.
