As a mechanic I served aboard the USNS Charlton. The USNS Charlton (T-AKR-

314) is one of the Military's Sealift Commands of nineteen Large, Medium-

Speed Roll-on/Roll-off Ships and is part of the 33 ships in the

Prepositioning Program. My job consisted of maintaining the readiness of

well over 1,000 military vehicles while working alongside 3 other military

mechanics. In many cases assessing vehicles consisted of navigating stair

wells seven flights below the main deck. I routinely inspected the weapon

and ordinance connex to insure all seals were intact and had not been

breached.

Field Service Representative

Replaced the existing suspension system on the MaxxPro with the new

upgraded independent suspension system. Installed

Survivability Upgrade Kits on the MaxxPro. Installed Turret Ring Catchers

on the MAT-V. Performed troubleshooting on electrical and mechanical

problems on both MAT-V and MaxxPro. Installed Rocket Propelled Grenade

netting on MRAP's. Installed door cleves on the M-ATV for the emergency

extraction of personnel.

Performed services and repairs on military wheeled vehicles. Oversaw

convoying military vehicles in need of repairs due to IED's or mechanical

or electrical breakdowns. Examined vehicles to determine extent of damage

or malfunctions. Test drove vehicles after repair was made, and tested

components and systems, using equipment such as computerized diagnostics.

Followed checklists to ensure all-important parts are examined, including

belts, hoses, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and

maintained the engine as well as the hydraulics system.
