extensively over the course of a year editing and translating Pfizer and

Wyeth documents related to FCPA. Clients include Inova Health Systems

(Cultural Competence/Office of Health Equity) and the Northern Virginia

Health and Education Center, in addition to agencies and private law firms

focused on civil law, contracts and immigration issues. Medical translation

expertise includes public health, medical examiner reports, doctor reports,

discharge, pre/post-operative and general healthcare instructions to

patients. Legal translation expertise includes airplane crash

investigations, compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,

international criminal and extradition law, pharmaceutical products and

product disputes, foreign seizure of US company properties located abroad,

real estate transactions and a variety of immigration issues.

Served as senior project manager and chief Spanish translator and editor.

Edited English translations of foreign evidence for presentation to US

federal courts. Edited and translated large numbers of documents to and

from Spain, Colombia, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Projects included

translations for the Office of International Affairs, the Narcotics and

Dangerous Drugs Section and the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering

Section. Subject matters included not only law, but also medicine,

forensic sciences, chemistry and finance. Oversaw a large increase in both

workload and revenue. In response to an increase in requests from the

Department of Justice, designed and implemented programs to recruit new

translators and retain experienced linguists. Developed rigorous, standard

tests to qualify potential candidates. Instituted training programs and

procedures for both new and experienced freelancers in order to tailor

translations to the specific requirements of each section of the US

Department of Justice. Created active Spanish-English terminology

databases particular to individual components of the Department of Justice,

with special focus on the individual foreign countries involved.

Translated court rulings, correspondence and requests for assistance into

and out of Spanish, and edited outsourced Spanish translations for

accuracy, style and internal consistency. Instituted and carried out

review procedures for outsourced translations from and into Spanish.
