Engineer II Electrical

Hsiao Po Nieh

***** ********** **. #** ******, CO 720-***-**** ablmm1@r.postjobfree.com

Colorado School of Mines Power Engineering graduate and dual M.S. candidate offering a strong academic background in power system engineering

with excellent professional and internship experiences as an EPC electrical engineer.

Quickly able to learn and master technologies and tools. Equally successful in both team and self directed settings. Functionally literate in Micro

Station, AutoCAD, ETAP, and SKM.

Professional Experience

URS – Denver, CO

Engineer II Electrical, (2009 to 2010): Began as a junior member of a two person electrical engineering and design team for a simple cycle gas

turbine power plant. The span of employment saw the entirety of this project. There was effectively no electrical project lead and the entire project was

a self guided “stretch” assignment. Following CEC, design and engineering of the plant’s auxiliary power systems, analog and discrete controls

systems, backup power systems, and ancillary feeds were accomplished in Micro Station 6, with a proprietary cable management plug in for

underground and tray routing.

Additionally, as a member of a system analysis project, the use of ETAP for load flow study, short circuit analysis, and arc flash analysis, provided

some functional experience in a key power system analysis tool.

Selected Contributions:

Self taught use of Micro Station to become a productive and indispensible member of the project.

Last electrical design engineer to remain on the project until turn over and work stop.

Interfaced with vendor technical staff on PDC panel design to achieve proper load balancing.

The Shaw Group – Centennial, CO

Three part internship, (2007 to 2008):

Electrical Engineering Intern – Nuclear Department, (01/08 – 08/08): Performed engineering voltage drop calculations and cable sizing per

NEC and nuclear specific project standards. Design of general arrangement layouts of medium and low voltage switchgear. AutoCAD, using NFPA and

IEEE arc flash distance specifications were primary design guidelines.

I & C Intern, (09/07 – 12/07): Data mining and device/specification verification within Smart Plant Instrumentation.

Project Data Management Intern, (07/07 – 09/07): Data tracking and management for Project Management team on project portal based in MS

SharePoint. This was primarily an IT based position which involved the interface of The Shaw Group’s portal with portals from two other clients. File

access permissions, and user membership management of project members were also responsibilities during this internship.

Selected Contributions:

Established a new standard template for project portal document management.

Sheraton Steamboat Resort – Steamboat Springs, CO

Systems Manager, (2003 to 2005): Performed workstation, server, and network optimization and automation. Proposed and planned IT capital

projects, purchasing, budgeting, and scheduling with the least amount of impact to day to day activities of revenue centers. Planned and provided user

education and training for new assets and tools. Provided technical and productivity support for hotel users and guests.

Selected Contributions:

Complete rebuild of the IT network and infrastructure on the basis of network load optimization and speed improvement.

Aggressively sought bids from vendors for capital projects to consistently completed projects under budget and before schedules.

Successfully implemented innovative technologies that trickled upstream which became corporate level standards.
