Summary
Professional engineer with seventeen years of experience including
environmental assessment, remediation and project management. Experience
includes management of groundwater and soil remediation projects for
commercial, industrial, government, petroleum and energy clients and
extensive knowledge of industrial wastewater treatment, hazardous waste
management, and safety programs.
Engineering and Construction Experience
. Designed retrofit for chlorinated solvent treatment system to include
destruction of 1,4-dioxane. Managed construction of treatment system
including installation of ultraviolet light/hydrogen peroxide oxidation
unit and granular activated carbon polishing. Treatment system met
discharge requirements with 99%+ destruction efficiency. Completed
project on schedule and 5% under fixed-price budget.
. Prepared work plan and designed remediation system for $600,000
compressed gas pilot test. Managed construction and field data
collection. Prepared summary report of test results. Completed testing
on-schedule and 15% under fixed-price budget.
. Prepared conceptual design for mixed-waste water treatment facility,
combining two existing CERCLA remediation treatment systems into a single
system capable of receiving contaminated water via tanker truck.
Treatment system processes included chemical precipitation,
microfiltration, ultraviolet light/hydrogen peroxide oxidation, granular
activated carbon, and ion exchange. Treatment system successfully
treated radionuclides, VOCs, and metals to below discharge standards.
. Provided construction management for RCRA chlorinated solvent remediation
system with soil vapor extraction and dual phase extraction technologies
at a manufacturing facility. Project finished ahead of schedule and
within budget.
. Designed free product removal system for west Texas gas plant. Managed
subcontractor selection, budgeting, and scheduling for field
construction. Installation was completed 10% under budget.
. Increased treatment system operation and maintenance efficiency for
federal government clients through value engineering. Engineering
modifications included introduction of new process chemicals,
optimization of system operating parameters, and modification of
treatment unit processes to streamline operations. Reduced operations
costs at three different water treatment facilities by 5% to 30%
resulting in annual cost savings of $10,000 to $40,000. Managed annual
budgets of $100,000 to $900,000.
Environmental Management Experience
. Managed remediation system operation and maintenance projects on behalf
of petroleum, dry-cleaning, industrial and federal government clients for
treatment of volatile organic compounds, semi-volatile organic compounds,
metals and radionuclides including CERCLA and RCRA remedial actions.
Consistently recommended cost savings recommendations to reduce life-
cycle costs.
. Prepared remediation progress reports, corrective action plans,
feasibility studies, contingency plans, cost/benefit analyses,
environmental training procedures, health and safety plans and No Further
Action requests. Agency interactions include the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment, Environmental Protection Agency and the
Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety. Reports were routinely
approved with minimal or no modifications required by the reviewing
agency.
. Implemented industrial wastewater treatment program for Department of
Energy CERCLA site. Evaluated process waste streams for treatment
feasibility. Recommended process treatment modifications or pre-
treatment requirements for unique waste streams. Facility had 100%
success rate treating various mixed waste streams to discharge standards.
. Prepared contingency plan and hazardous waste communications training
program for government contractors. Trained contractors on program
elements and response requirements for various emergency response
scenarios. Trained waste inspectors on RCRA container storage and waste
packaging requirements.
. Provided field oversight and reporting for source removal excavation at
dry-cleaning facility in Centennial, Colorado. Received no further
action approval from the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment. Project completed on schedule and within budget.
. Managed environmental assessment projects at manufacturing and retail
facilities. Evaluated horizontal and vertical extent of contamination.
Maximized efficiency of field operations through accurate development of
site conceptual models.
. Managed sitewide radiological decontamination facility for environmental
remediation equipment at Department of Energy CERCLA site. Annual
operating costs maintained consistently at, or below annual budget,
Office Management Experience
Managed office of approximately twenty environmental professionals.
Responsibilities included recruiting, business development, cost
estimating, client/vendor relations, mentoring, and direct supervision of
five to ten environmental professionals. Reduced overhead costs by 8% and
increased business unit revenue by 100% within two years of assuming office
leadership.
