Professional Sensis Corporation, E. Syracuse, NY
2008 - 2010
Experience: Sensis Corporation provides innovative solutions for air
defense, air traffic control, airline and airport automation,
and personnel security. The company serves a global client base
in more than 35 countries across six continents.
Project Manager, 2008 - 2010
o Managed activities of 15 mechanical and electrical engineers
to complete Expeditionary Radar System design tasks on time
and in budget. Responded to technical engineering changes
from the customer and coordinated those design changes with
Sensis engineering resources to keep the program on track.
Achieved timely completion of tasks that led to approval for
the next phase.
o Initiated and implemented a "virtual design" build process to
assure the first time mechanical build would assemble without
serious design and build errors. This saved Sensis from
making potential major costly design mistakes. Developed
assembly tool ideas for the initial assembly process and for
future field service.
o Acted as a technical point of contact, provided technical
direction to a system supplier for six major sub-systems,
coordinated design changes between the supplier and Sensis.
o Developed new Sensis engineering drawing formats and Quick
Reference guides for engineers to consistently meet ASME Y14
drawing requirements.
o Designed and supervised a Thermal Test Plan for an Azimuth
Actuator to assure capability in worst case wind loads and
ambient conditions.
Magna Powertrain - New Process Gear, E. Syracuse, NY 1984
- 2008
Magna Powertrain's New Process Gear Division is a premier
manufacturer of automotive drivetrain components and assemblies
that are supplied to major automotive companies of the world.
Product Engineering Project Manager, 2003 - 2008
o Managed a team of engineers, designers, mechanical
technicians and prototype expeditors to design, procure and
build prototypes, test and develop transfer cases and
transmissions for four wheel drive and hybrid/electric
vehicles, providing on time delivery of demonstrators and
prototype test assemblies.
o Persuaded Tesla, a high speed electric car company, to place
their future transmission business with New Process Gear.
o Mentored less experienced engineers through a myriad of
design and development challenges using a hands-on approach.
Performed annual reviews of subordinates and suggested areas
of improvement.
Product Engineering Senior Engineer, 1995 - 2003
o Designed the NV271/273 Transfer Case series that is in
today's Ford and Dodge trucks, providing an annual sales
revenue of $250 M for over 10 years.
o Planned and organized demonstration and testing activities.
Supervised designer drafters and mechanical technicians to
create new transfer case designs, build prototypes and
finalize development activities in preparation for production
release. Initiated significant cost saving ideas, developed
design modifications and organized verification testing to
increase sales margins.
Product Engineer, 1984 - 1995
o Designed a new 5 speed manual transmission, NV4500, for the
heavy pick-up truck market. Prototyped and developed
demonstrator transmissions to win significant new
transmission business with General Motors.
o Performed Resident Engineering liaison functions; assisted
the manufacturing plant with product design support, problem
solving, DFM, DFA and design/quality initiatives for
transmission and transfer case assembly lines to drastically
reduce warranty and customer complaints.
ALCO Power, Auburn, NY
1980-1984
