Toronto York Spadina Station Extension Project;
Project for TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) consisted of a new subway station
box comprising of an under-platform, platform, service, concourse and bus
platform level, as well as a surface facility comprising of a concourse and upper
concourse level. Participated in the design of the HVAC system for both facilities.
The HVAC design consisted of (4) modular type air handling units that provided
cooling to public areas in the stations by means of natural ventilation and
provided heating by means of integral electric modules. The air handling units
were of 9,000 CFM, 19,000 CFM, 25,000 CFM and 37,000 CFM capacities. Each
space served by an air handling unit was provided with ventilation air that met a
prescribed air changes per hour rate or the air change rate required to handle the
space’s internal heat loads, which ever was greater. Offices and other occupied
spaces within the facility were served by packaged air-source heat pumps, while
elevator machine rooms and escalator service rooms (on the platform level) were
served by industrial-grade packaged air-conditioning units. Ventilation air was
provided to mechanical rooms for each packaged air-conditioning unit and heat
pump by means of separated exhaust ventilation systems. There were (2) fire
fighter’s access stairs; one on the north and the other on the south extremities of
the station box facility, with each stair served by (1) 9000 CFM inline stair
pressurization fan system. An emergency power room (batter y room) was
maintained at a negative pressure by means of a duplex spark-resistant exhaust
fan. Task included performing load calculations for entire building utilizing
Carrier HAP and Trane Trace programs. The station system also consisted of
hoists for equipment lifting and location, as well as a monorail system.

Mammoth Cave Visitors Center, Phase 2;
Coordinated HVAC design around architectural features to meet special
requirements of museum building. Building consisted of (2) floors and a platform
level. Designed VAV system comprising of a 40,000 CFM VAV air handling unit
and several VAV boxes serving building zones. Zone heating was furnished by
electric reheat coils in the boxes. Designed ductwork and chilled water piping
sizing and layout. Chilled water piping was connected to existing chiller also
serving existing portion of museum building.

Honolulu High Capacity Transit Corridor Project, Honolulu, Hawaii:
Participated in the mechanical engineering and preliminary design for HVAC
systems for various buildings that are part of the planned new transit system for
Honolulu. These buildings include stations, communications buildings, transit
vehicle maintenance shops, vehicle storage yards, an operations control center,
traction power substations, and several multilevel parking structures. The stations
are of five different basic configurations, some aerial stations of 2 or 3 levels, and
others at grade and below grade level. This project utilized the Trace 700 program
version 6.1.2 to calculate the savings in energy between the proposed design
buildings and a baseline buildings based on LEED –NC v2.1 EA Credit 1 and
ASHRAE 90.1-2004.

DEA classified project. Designed a new stand-alone compressed air system to
handle the requirements of automated and manual stick inserters, blister packers,
cartoners, lable printers, as well as other associated process equipment. Designed
system with stringent air change, air pressurization, temperature and humidity
control requirements utilizing a direct expansion split (Munters) dehumidification
unit in conjunction with a recirculating air handling unit.

Design of clean rooms to handle the moisture and heat generation resulting from
the lyophilization and isolation of peptide APIs. Designed HVAC system with 4-
pipe chilled and heating hot water systems for custom air handling units to
maintain air change rates, temperature, humidity and air pressurization within
clean rooms per ISO requirements. Wrote specifications for biosafety cabinets,
vented balanced safety enclosures, fume hoods, chemical solvent hoods and inert-
gas glove boxes.

Covidien/Mallinkrodt – Addition to R&D Pilot Plant
Webster Groves, Missouri.
Designed new constant volume HVAC system with terminal reheats coils for
facility. All supply and exhaust air devices incorporated the use of terminal HEPA
filters to eliminate contamination to product, users and public. Project scope also
involved the design of a duct collection system. Design included a new primary-
secondary chilled water pumping system, cooling tower water for water cooled
chillers, steam generation system to accommodate system terminal reheat coils,
air handling unit preheat coils, an air handling unit humidification steam
generation system and cleaning of USP tanks.
