Received patient samples for analysis in the departments of Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank. Report patient results accurately and timely. Perform maintenance, calibrations and quality control on all equipment and analyzers in each department. Assist in training new employees and students during their clinical rotations. Receive specimens for culture and analysis in the department of Microbiology. Set up patient and quality control organism cultures for growth. Read growth on assortment of agar plates and set up for definitive analysis and working antibiotic results. Prepares specimens by frozen section method under supervision of Pathologist to provide immediate diagnosis of patient disease and assist with informing surgeon of next step in patient care. Assists Pathologist in autopsy procedures to determine patient’s cause of death. Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all equipment, including processor, embedding stations, slide stainer, microtome, and cryostats. System Administrator over Pathology computer system – Power Path. Trained in Tucson, Arizona to build and implement the Power Path system into the hospital use. Responsible for the training of other histology employees, administration, medical staff, transcription and medical records staff. Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, backup and distribution of patient reports. Responsible for proper patient coding and billing.
