CAREER GOALS

To work in a stable company where I can utilize my years of

Information Technology experience in a goal oriented team atmosphere

and eventually retire from that company.

Summary

I have worked for 25 years in Information Technology in a

manufacturing environment with one year in wholesale

distribution.

Core Competencies. My expertise has been in ERP and the IBM

Midrange market, most recently System i. I have worked with

various packages to support the companies I have worked for, such

as BPCS, MAPICS, Kronos Time and Attendance, and Harbinger

Electronic Data Interchange.

Computer skills

Languages

I am proficient in: RPG II, IV, CL, and SQL. I have been exposed

to Microsoft Visual Basic. I have limited exposure to two

distributions of Linux, Ubuntu and OpenSUSE.

Software

The primary database I have used is IBM DB2 with some exposure to

SQL Server. I am familiar with all versions of Windows up to

Windows 7. I have had limited exposure to Windows Server 2008.

Office

Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook,

Word, Excel, Power Point, One Note, Communicator, Project, and

Visio. I have limited exposure with Microsoft SharePoint.

Hapco and American Flagpole

My primary tool to assist the company was our manufacturing ERP

package, BPCS. The platform was a System i, some other names it

has had over the years was iSeries, and AS/400. BPCS is a

complete software package which takes care of the customer

order, planning and MRP, scheduling shop orders, billing the

orders, creating entries in the General Ledger, and financials

all in one integrated package.

Over the years my job entailed several different functions.

Consistent over that time frame, I was the primary knowledge

base for BPCS. I trained people in its functionality, handled

most of the technical support calls, attended user groups and

training, participated in discussions on how to enhance it as a

resource. I worked with all plug-in packages that we used. Our

most utilized plug-in was Kronos Time and Labor Reporting which

allowed us to track productivity, efficiency, and utilization

while reporting back to the shop order product in BPCS. We also

used Messenger Plus to alert users of situations arising in the

data and system level error messages. Other plug-ins we used

were PerZip4 and Zip City to assist with correctly entering ship

to addresses in order entry, and New Generation Software

Interactive Query which was an enhanced query tool. Also

consistent during my tenure I wrote custom plug ins for BPCS and

either authored or had a hand in most reporting that was used in

the company. Examples of those plug ins was an Invoice call

tracking system, Labor and Productivity from Kronos, MRP data

extracted to planners and purchasing, and a custom physical

inventory interface.

The System i was my primary emphasis. That was supported by a

Contemporary Cybernetics virtual and physical tape system and

Chloride UPS with iSeries interface. The Cybernetics devices

supported both the iSeries and Windows systems. The company had

a 1GB backbone with mostly 3-Com Managed Switches

I have assisted in managing the IT capital assets of the company,

procured systems and technology to aid the company, and managed

people in the IT department. .

In November of 2004 Hapco become a dual facility company with a

branch in Gastonia, NC. Our connection was a T1 built between

Abingdon and Gastonia. Other than PC's in the Gastonia Facility,

they worked completely off of the Hardware located in Abingdon.

Later we did put a Windows 2008 server on site, and it was backed

up by our Cybernetics device along with a Terabyte drive locally.

1990

CAMAC (Now Universal Fibers)

My primary focus was an IBM System 36 loaded with MAPICS II.

MAPICS was the MRP system. It was good software for the time and

allowed us to take orders, plan for shop orders with the

exception of the color concentrate, bill, collect invoices, and

some general ledger functionality. The color concentrate shop

order system was custom written in RPG II as was most of the

reporting inside of the company.

During this time I was also the PC coordinator maintaining,

installing, trouble shooting, and working with an outside vendor

for hardware needs. I also supervised one programmer.

Programmer 1984-1985

Mitchell Powers Hardware

My short tenure at Mitchell Powers Hardware was a programmer and

assisted in maintaining a completely in house written

distribution package. During that time I added a serial number

database for the appliances that were sold and a telephone

supported Telzon order entry system which the salesman would key

their orders in at night and would be extracted directly into the

order database the next business day.

Bristol Regional Medical Center

During this time while trying to get into the programming field I

held two positions. While a male nursing aide I took direct care

of patients on the floor under the direction of the nursing

supervisor. As an X-Ray Escort Aide, I transported patients to

and from the radiology department under the direction of the

Radiology Department Supervisor.

Technical Editor

1997 - 1999

Midrange Computing, Carlsbad Ca.

From 1997 until the company closed in 1999, I was technical

editor for Midrange Computing which was a technical journal for

the IBM Midrange market. I wrote articles to support the

magazine and annotated articles which were submitted by other

individuals both outside and inside Midrange Computing.

Beech Grove United Methodist Church

I was the Lay Leader for the church from 1983 - 2008. In

this position I interpreted the programs from our church

conference to the congregation. I also coordinated times

when our pastor was absent and filled the pulpit as a

speaker. Since 1984 I have taught the High School aged

Youth Sunday School class and participated in many Bible

Schools. Other offices I have held were Staff Parish

Chairperson from 1986-1992 and committee member from 1996 -

2008. From 1993 until 1997 I held the position of Assistant

Chairperson of the Administrative Board, and have held the

position of Chairperson for two terms from 1997 - 2001 and

2009 to the present.

Abingdon District, Holston Conference of UMC

I volunteered as the Lay Speakers Training Coordinator of the

Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1993 -

1999.
