Career Summary
Eleven years’ research experience with increasing responsibilities and successful record of scientific
achievement. Designed and analyzed formulations of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU).
EXPERIENCE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
1998-2009 R&D Engineer, Estane, Lubrizol (BFGoodrich), Cleveland, Ohio
Customer Interaction
Key team member for projects for large customer projected to bring in over $4 million in 2008
Traveled to Asia as part of the spandex development team to gain a better understanding of main
requirements for the TPU used by key fiber producers
Coordinated with other groups within the company to analyze customer samples in a timely manner
and provide answers to processing or formulation issues; communicated results to the customer or to
appropriate marketing personnel
Visited customers in the fabric coating industry to determine TPU requirements to meet their needs
Research
Trained in the design and analysis of experiments to increase effectiveness and efficiency while
designing and testing new products
Supported European efforts in both laboratory experimentation and scale-up for various key projects in
the extrusion and injection molding segment
Synthesized lab-scale TPU to analyze properties for use in static dissipative applications
Obtained a world and US patent for work on TPU intended for use as a fabric coating with desirable
moisture vapor transmission properties
Developed and tested polyurethane using cross-linking technology for use in golf ball covers, seals,
and other key applications
Compiled and organized technical data sheets on experimental products
Product Database
Project leader for the Estane Product Database, a research tool designed to reduce cost and
formulation time by predicting and optimizing a product based on chemistry, processing conditions, and
testing procedures
Tested the developmental system and cleared it to go into live mode
Expanded and modified the Estane database to include detailed formulation, process, and testing for
each lot and blend of material produced in the pilot lines and in the synthesis lab. Also included
information on which lots had received additional testing beyond quality control at the plant
Suggested and tested enhancements to the database including improved search abilities. Modified
method for entering test data allowing for the introduction of test categories which improved efficiency
Coordinated with the pilot plant and testing groups in order to receive data in a timely and efficient
manner
Wrote and maintained a user manual on the Estane database detailing general use and terminology,
including an ingredients glossary

Product Database (continued)
Developed a log for the database to keep track of which products had been entered and when they had
been produced, which testing had been completed, responsible scientist, and the quarter the product
had been entered
Developed and maintained a secondary database of the scanned original documents on a network
drive for use by R&D personnel wishing to see the original charts and tables. Secondary database also
used for future linking from the web-based product database
Used Web Trends software to track database traffic over time
Estane Recipes
Recipe coordinator for Estane products, responsible for maintaining accuracy and consistency of the
Estane product formulations for synthesis and plant work
Assigned new product and commodity codes for research products upon initial work on the pilot line
Checked all formulations for accuracy
Used the National Chemical Inventories database to verify and locate CAS numbers for Estane
products
Added new recipes to the database as needed from R&D, applications, and production
Approved final formulations added to the database
Processing and Testing
Trained on the Estane polyurethane pilot line
Skilled in the use of a small-scale Brabender extruder to analyze lab-scale samples
Wrote programs for testing fibers on Instron tensile testing equipment and performed tests
Selected and trained on lab-scale knitting and dyeing machines for internal testing of spandex fibers
incorporated into fabric
Safety Awareness
Improved and maintained safety core records for the Estane R&D group
Coordinated and ran safety meetings for the Estane R&D group
Administrated the Active Learner system for the Estane R&D group
Trained on Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) as part of Lubrizol’s certification
Analyzed and rewrote standard operating procedures for laboratory equipment and testing procedures
Updated lab MSDS files and created an index for ease in reference
