Experience
Research Assistant
Computer Vision Lab, Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ
May 2009-Present
Detected, recognized and segmented multiple object categories
simultaneously in large-scale urban environments, supported in part by
DARPA URGENT program and Google Research
. Segmented 3D point cloud data into support surfaces and objects,
generated multiple hypotheses for potential object categories using local
descriptors (spin images) and K-NN classifier, clustered to form a visual
vocabulary
. Verified hypothesis using histogram representation based on visual
vocabulary, got 82% classification accuracy
Teaching Assistant
Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ August
2008-May 2009
Taught both undergraduate and graduate students Operating Systems and
Interactive Computer Graphics
Research Assistant
Intelligent Information Processing Lab, USTC, Hefei, China
September 2007-July 2008
Developed novel computer vision techniques for pupil localization
. Evaluated existing pupil localization algorithms on FERET database and
demonstrated the necessity for developing novel robust algorithm to uneven
illuminations, noise, accessories and pose variations
. Developed a novel PCA-GaborEye method and negative radial symmetry
operator, which made the average accuracy increase 20% compared with
existing methods
Intern
Center for Biometrics and Security Research (CBSR), Beijing, China
June 2007-August 2007
Extracted human feature in visible spectrum image, programmed with OpenCV
and C++
. Examined existing descriptors for human feature extraction, chose HOG
descriptor and implemented to extract human feature in visible spectrum
image, awarded "Excellent Undergraduate Research Project"
Research Assistant
Complexity and Complex System Research Lab, USTC, Hefei, China
June 2006-May 2007
Implemented terrain modeling, simulation and interpolation (three key
technologies) in project "Key Technology Research on Lunar Detection 3-D
Data Processing"
. Proposed and developed fractal method for terrain modeling, simulation
and interpolation, programmed with C
