Duties and Responsibilities of a Right of Way Agent: Negotiated with
property owners, public officials, and utility companies to secure the
purchase, lease, licensure, and permitting of real estate rights
relating to right of way acquisitions for transportation and utility
projects. Utilized knowledge of real estate law, appraisal, and
acquisition principals to accomplish a variety of tasks in the
following functional departments:
Utility Relocation Department - Coordinated and addressed the
real estate conveyances and administrative activities relating
to the installation, relocation, and protection of water, sewer,
gas, electric, telephone, cable television, and other utility
facilities affecting transportation right of ways.
Appraisals - Involved in the preparation of a variety of
valuations including replacement-housing valuations, real
property acquisition cost estimates for budgeting purposes, and
fair market value appraisals of properties required for
transportation projects.
Acquisition - Responsible for obtaining right of way by
negotiation and eminent domain proceedings for
State and Federal highway transportation projects.
Property Management - Responsible for the management of State
owned, non-operating properties for
various transportation projects from the time of acquisition
until the eventual clearance of the property for
project construction. Involved to an extensive degree in
property rentals, rental management,
maintenance, rehabilitation, and the eventual sale or demolition
of improvements. Extensive involvement
managing a 112-unit apartment building and two large trailer
parks.
Relocation Assistance - Involved in a variety of tasks,
including performing conceptual and design stage
replacement housing availability studies; providing relocation
advisory services to displaced individuals
and businesses; providing equitable replacement housing payments
to displaced persons in a timely
manner; and providing moving expense payments to displaced
individuals and businesses.
