Education:
B.S., Chemistry, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, North Dartmouth MA,
2013
Experience:
Alpha Analytical: 09/13-01/2015
Chemist I in an environmental lab. Worked in the organic extractions lab
extracting soil and water samples for analysis of various pollutants such
as PAH's, PCB's, semi-volatile organics, etc. Responsible for testing
reagent lots for contamination prior to use and testing solvent recovery
apparatus for efficiency. Participated in formulation and implementation
of lean improvements to methods.
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth: 02/09-05/09 & 09/12-05/13
Conducted research under the supervision of Dr. Sivappa Rasapalli.
Developed a 1st generation synthesis of Luotonin A, a known Topoisomerase I
inhibitor. Developed a second generation synthesis of Vasicinone analogs,
allowing a wider range of NP analogs to be synthesized than was possible
from the first generation synthesis. Characterized reaction products using
FTIR, NMR, and TLC. Grew crystals of products for characterization by x-
ray diffraction. Experience preparing samples for NMR analysis and
interpreting NMR data.
Metalor Technologies USA: 09/09-11/11
Worked in an analytical lab. Used fire assay techniques to determine the
amount of precious metals in alloys. Experience in cupellation,
scorification, fusion, and parting with nitric acid. Experience using LIMS
software to record data.
SMAST (School for Marine Science and Technology): 03/08-05/08
Worked in an environmental chemistry lab. Cleaned glassware and
inventoried chemical supplies. Prepared samples for spectrophotometric
measurement of dissolved nitrogen. Took spectrophotometric measurements.
Skills/Certifications:
Chemistry
Experience preparing solutions for NMR analysis and interpreting proton NMR
data.
Solid and liquid phase extraction including acid-base extractions.
Waste dilution (EPA methods 3580 and 3580A).
Silica gel, alumina, and sulfur cleanup (EPA methods 3630C, 3610B, 3660B).
Concentration using rotovaps, Kuderna-Danish apparatus and Buchi polyvaps.
Experience using UV/Vis spectrophotometry
Experience using TLC, and FTIR to characterize reaction products.
Synthesis of heterocyclic organic molecules.
Acid-base, redox, and complexometric titration.
Making standard solutions, pipetting.
Computer
Experience using LIMS software for sample management and as an electronic
laboratory notebook.
Experience making simple Python applications utilizing Django framework.
Also translated simple gw basic programs into python.
Learned Mathematica in senior level course on mathematical methods in
chemistry. Learned to write implementations of robust statistical tools
such FREML, Huber estimator, Monte Carlo simulations etc.
Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) as well as open-source
alternatives (OpenOffice and LibreOffice).
