Relevant Professional Experience
The Methodist Hospital Research Institute Aug 2009-present
Sr. Applications Systems Analyst
This position supports the information technology systems development and
configuration efforts of the hospital research operations. As Sr. Analyst,
responsibilities include interfacing with the research teams to identify
system improvement opportunities, including legacy code (VB and
asp/javascript) maintenance. Working directly with researchers, technology
innovations are applied to systems for testing and acceptance. Design and
develop research storage systems to achieve optimal access to raw and
computed data using .net technology (c# and vb.net), and SQL Server. Create
complex SQL queries for financial reports, using SSIS to extract from
Oracle data stores to move into SQL Server tables. Perform the function of
business analyst to determine business requirements and user needs for
developing new web-based solutions. Current projects include the Methodist
Online Research Technology Initiative (MORTI), which is a consolidation of
several online research management modules, including the Clinical Trial
Management System, the Administrative Review and Funding System, Account
Management, Protocol Management, Patient Management, Patient Tracking, Data
Management, Reporting, and Budgeting.
GOA Software Solutions Dec 2008- Jul 2009
Systems Analyst
Developed C# applications, using SQL Server database to store and retrieve
systems monitoring data. Configured and maintained several databases,
including SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, and Sybase. Installed, administered,
and maintained server systems using server administrative features
including Active Directory Services. Served as Level- 2 desktop support for
users.
MD Anderson Cancer Center Apr 2005-Nov 2007
Systems Analyst
Designed, developed, implemented, and supported features for the clinical
Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Interfaced with external service vendors
in support of the radiological imaging application, which is part of the
clinical EMR. Provided user support, improved code, and worked with users
and other team members towards new feature development. The writing,
testing, and maintenance of the EMR functions were carried out with the use
of Visual Studio .Net. Formulated and defined system scope and objectives
based on user needs for EMR projects. Created and modified complex stored
procedures to solve SQL Server database query problems, considering server
capacity and network limitations. For example, a SQL Server database server
monitoring application was developed to give advanced warning of impending
fatal crashes, and identify bottlenecks. This has helped to avert
catastrophic system failures. Analyzed and revised existing system logic of
physician group worklist by examining individual queries and stored
procedures, resulting in time-savings for radiology section chiefs.
Additionally, the position required a thorough understanding of advanced IT
architectural/infrastructural concepts.
Developed individual solutions for the EMR upgrade to .net architecture. In
this position, I was responsible for identifying individual VB modules,
then converting these to the .net architecture using C#. The new system
uses a service-oriented architecture (SOA), to fetch data from a SQL Server
database. The system consists of client components, broker services, and
backend stores. The client components request for information begins at the
presentation layer (from the window form) by invoking request objects, that
are packaged messages which are passed to the service broker, which then
processed the request to the server. Once the server responded to the
request, the broker would pass the response back to the client, and the
client would present the information back to the user. Each of the layers
used contracts, a pre-determined manner in which to repackage the
request/response to the subsequent layer. Along the way, the requests
would instantiate respective protocols to communicate with each other.
Hewlett-Packard (formerly Compaq) Nov 1999-Apr 2005
Business Systems Analyst/Lead, Global Operations-IT
Analyzed the product hierarchy (parts classification system) data models
associated with pre-merger Compaq/HP, to identify disparities therein.
Developed a C# application after having formulated and specified the
solution including its data model, use case documentation, milestones, time-
lines, progress reporting, and communication protocols to stakeholders as
well as facilitation of training/documentation;
Performed project life-cycle functions for secure global document
collaboration system, and developed application in VB. Project design
included identifying risks and specifying management contingencies.
Specific timelines and milestones for Work Breakdown elements were linked
to resource allocations using project management software.
Initiated, designed, and implemented development SQL Server database
servers to model production servers for disparate systems in support of the
corporate merger integration effort. Created SQL Server database
application in .net to merge the product hierarchy databases, and identify
duplicate parts by description, usage, and vendor.
Developed the end-to-end .net solution for a global document collaboration
system, including user registration, document repository, compression,
encryption, delivery, tracking, notification, documentation, training, and
user support.
