PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

An Investigation of Thermal Climate with Correlation to Energy Efficiency:

. Statistical Data Analysis and Processing: Tabulated and analyzed 569

thermal comfort surveys and analyzed the data using statistical tests

and analyzed the thermal comfort level of students in compliance with

ASHRAE and ISO thermal comfort standards.

. CAD Modeling: Created a 3D model of the classroom under study using

AutoCAD Architecture 2010.

. Computational Fluid Dynamics: Using Phoenics CFD performed CFD

analysis of thermal comfort level and compared to the field results

from surveys. Applied the renormalization k-? turbulence model for

fluid flow for analysis. Used the pre-processor CFD code to setup the

model, performed a mesh study and ran the post processor to analyze

the results and draw conclusions.

. Energy Analysis: Performed energy analysis of the classroom using

HVACloadexplorer and provided energy conservation measures keeping in

mind thermal comfort level of occupants.

. Reporting and Documentation: Prepared and wrote a technical report per

university format to report the findings and presented research at

several conferences and thesis committee.

Designed an HVAC system for a school building:

. HVAC System Design: Selected equipments, duct and pipe routing for a

single story school building. Performed detailed design engineering of

HVAC system involving heating and cooling load calculation, and

prepared drawing and specifications.

Vibration Test Fixture:

. Engineering Design Calculations: Performed component design

calculations and selected parts (shafts, bearing, and rotors) to

design and built a working prototype of a vibration test fixture.

. System Testing and Troubleshooting: Tested the prototype to

demonstrate vibration signals generated by introducing looseness,

misalignment and imbalance.

. Finite Element Analysis: Gained experience in using ALGOR FEA for

structural analysis of the prototype model.

. Project Scheduling and Budgeting: Developed skills in project

scheduling and budgeting using Microsoft Project, Gantt Charts,

Critical Path Method (CPM), and Project Evaluation and Review

Technique (PERT).
