Data Protection Appliance

Jan 2007 - Oct 2007

Client: nCipher Corporation Ltd

Description:

The Data protection appliance is aimed at providing highly available

appliance providing support for cryptographic operations from client

applications across the networking. There were two types of appliances

Management appliance and Offload appliance. Management appliance provide

additional user interface that allows the administration of the whole

system from a single interface

Roles: Design, development, QA

Responsibilities:

Involved in design and development of Failover module using C++ under

Linux in the data protection appliance. The failover module takes care of

providing the continuous availability of cryptographic services to the

client even if one or more appliances fail

Involved in the design and development of Configuration Manager module

using C++ under Linux. This module faciliates the configuration of the

system through UI.

Involved in design, development and testing of Resource Monitor module

using Perl. The resource monitor periodically monitors the software and

hardware resources in the appliance and raises an alarm in case of failure

of critical module.

Involved in Unit Testing for the above modules.

Involved in code analysis of Wackamole(Application for high availability)

to find the logic behind allocation of Virtual IP address among the

appliances in the cluster

Involved in code change of Wackamole to allocate the virtual IP address

according to the need raised in the project

Used the design tool Microsoft Visio

Used the debugging tool strace (system call tracer) during the code

analysis of wackamole

Involved in simulating and testing various failover scenarios and hence the

high availability of the cluster using the tools Wackamole and Spread

Mentored the team members on testing the high availability and the code

analysis of wackamole.

Environment: Linux, C, C++, Microsoft Visio, gdb, strace, CVS

XC - Software Sustenance

Mar 2004 - Aug 2006

Client: Motorola Inc.

Description:

The SuperCell Transcoder SubSystem (XC) is the component of RAN - Base

Station Controller in the CDMA Cellular Network. This component is

responsible for

Call processing i.e. Call setup, Data transfer and Call Release

Vocoding i.e. Conversion of data rate from 16 kbps to 64 kbps or vice

versa

Conversion from voice call to packet data call or vice versa

Roles: Design, Development, QA

Responsibilities:

Involved in the module which deals with the call processing of various call

types like voice calls, data calls and packet data calls. This module is

responsible for the call setup, call release, maintaining the session, data

transfer in both uplink and downlink direction and finally releasing the

call for all call types

Have done the requirement analysis, design, implementation, code review and

testing of various enhancement features in the area of call processing

using C/C++ under Unix

Have done implementation and testing of many change requests

Assisted the QA team to solve several issues.

Got a good understanding of the system design in which the call flow is

triggered in the state machine based on protocol events.

Involved in Unit/Integration Testing during which I wrote test scripts in

Expect for the automation of testing

Involved in Bug - Fixing activities in which I solved issues right from the

analyzing the logs using tools like ethereal.

Used the tool Rational ClearQuest for tracking changes due to new feature

development / change requests

Analyzed various logs like sniffer logs, event logs, CAIT logs and various

other logs internal to the module and I have reached a comfort level in

analyzing the logs

Involved in several enhancement feature work in which I have prepared SWFS,

Design documents, Test Plan and some other deliverable documents.

Involved in the module Switch Manager(SM) that is responsible for

allocating/de-allocating the resources by maintaining the status of

resources in the transcoder during Call Setup/Release.

Did the code analysis of Switch Manager module to understand the

functionality and working of this module and took the primary

responsibility of this module.

Solved many critical issues in this module.

Involved in development and testing for enhancement of this module

Mentored the new team members in this module

Developed a testing tool which can simulate any external entity and send /

Receive messages. This tool also has the intelligence to decide whether the

particular test case passed or not. With the help of this tool, entire

testing environment can be simulated and testing can be done automatically

with out manual intervention

Designed and developed a unix shell script to download the source code

files of the transcoder subsystem from the server system to the client

Worked in other modules also (like OAM and platform) to get the bigger

picture of the call processing functionality.

Gave field support to some critical issues.

Have interacted with clients in mails and teleconference whenever the need

raised.

Environment: Unix, C, C++, gdb, Rational ClearQuest, Clearcase

Ethereal dissector

Feb 2006 - May 2006

Description:

Ethereal is a GUI network protocol analyzer. It lets the user to

interactively browse packet data from a live network or from a previously

saved capture file. An ethereal dissector is a parser/decoder that can be

written for a particular protocol and can be integrated to ethereal.

Roles: Design, Development, Testing

Responsibilities:

Involved in developing 1x CDMA EVDO IOS signaling plane protocol dissector

for all the IOS interface as per the 3GPP2 Release - A standard. These

dissector libraries can be plugged easily with both UNIX and Window's

version of Ethereal and compliant to Release - A version of A13, A14, A15

interface messages

Used the Ethereal tool to capture packet data

Involved in unit testing of the plugin dissector

Tested the plugin dissector with the data captured using ethereal.

Environment: Unix, C, gdb, Ethereal

Nokia terminal SMS scheduler

This application is used to send and receive messages via GSM modem

connected to the system through serial port. The project was aimed at

sending SMS alert to the subscribed users on reception of a new email.

Roles: Development, QA

Responsibilities:

Involved development of feature with C++ under Windows which identifies if

the user is subscribed to receive the email alert and sending SMS alert to

the user on reception of a new email.

Involved in writing SQL scripts which queries the database for new users,

number of users, number of emails and so on

Involved in Log analysis and bug fixing activities for this project.

Involved in testing the feature by sending SMS alerts for the terminals

which were subscribed for testing purpose

Involved in GUI development.

Involved in load testing by sending bulk of SMS alerts.
