PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND & SKILLS

I have the background of Power Electronics Converters, including DC/DC

Converters, AC/DC Rectifiers, DC/AC Inverters. I am very familiar with the

operation principles of these converters and have experienced in designing

them for various applications including Hybrid Vehicles, Smart Grid, and

Renewable Energy Harvesting Systems (Solar, Wind, Ocean Wave, Ocean Tidal,

Ocean Thermal). For the DC/DC Converters, I have the knowledge of the Non-

Isolated Converters (Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost, Zeta, Cuk, Sepic) and

Isolated Converters (Flyback, Forward, Push-Pull, Half Bridge, Full

Bridge). I am very proficient with their operation principles in Continuous

Conduction Mode (CCM), Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) and Critical

Discontinuous Conduction Mode (CDCM). I also have the control background

for converters, including Analog Control and Digital Control. Most of my

research experience is related to the Hybrid Vehicle, Renewable Energy

Harvesting and Smart Grid applications. I have a strong background in the

propulsion system of Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, All Electric Vehicles and

Series, Parallel, and Series-Parallel Hybrid Vehicles. I am also familiar

with the Power Electronics Converter Application in Motor Drives and some

other advanced topics for Power Electronic Converters such as Bidirectional

Converter, Multi-input Converter, Integrated Converters, Programming

Converters, Synchronous Rectification, and Resonant Converters. I have

plentiful experience in designing complicated power electronic converter

systems in MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Illinois Institute of Technology is at the forefront in the area of Hybrid

and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles. IIT has several laboratories in the area of

Power Electronics and has the Electric Power and Power Electronic Center.

These laboratories have contributed a lot in the field of Power

Electronics. I have been a research member of the laboratory for two years

and have done a lot of researches in the area of Power Electronic

Converters, especially for the application of Hybrid Vehicles.

Design the Power Electronics Circuit for the Body Motion Energy Harvesting

with the Linear Motor

Design the power electronics converter for the body motion energy

harvesting with the linear motor to realize that maximum power can be

extracted from the linear motor. Another power electronics converter is

designed as the battery charger to realize fluent current is charged to the

battery.

Design, Simulation and Analysis of SLR & PLR DC/DC Converter

Resonant Circuit is designed to realize Zero Current Switch (ZCS) and Zero

Voltage Switch (ZVS) which can eliminate the switch loss for Power

Electronics Converters. Simulate the circuit using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Design and Simulation for Hybrid Unmanned Air Vehicles

Fuel Cell and Photovoltaic Array are combined to compose a Hybrid Power

System to power the HALE Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Hybrid Power Systems are

designed and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Further research will focus

on more complicated Hybrid Power System to meet the requirement of variable

power load.

Design and Simulation a New Hybrid Power System for the Micro Air Vehicles

(MAV)

Investigate the past research on Power Systems for MAV and propose a new

Hybrid Power System to extend the flight endurance of MAV. The simulation

is finished using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

PHEV/Wind Unit Coordination to Reduce the Operation Cost of Power System

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) can be used as an energy storage

device to reduce the influence of wind unit generation and thus realize

minimum operation cost of power system. MATLAB code has been written and

the power system operation is analyzed.

Several Design Methods of Maximum Power Point Tracking for Photovoltaic

Array

DC/DC converters can be used to track the maximum power point for PV panel

and control the panel to work at the MPPT. Four methods to realize MPPT are

introduced and compared. Simulations results are given using

MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Synchronous Machine Near-to-Generator Short-Circuit Analysis

Use MATLAB/SIMULINK to simulate the phenomenon of Near-to-Generator short

circuit.

Design and Simulation for an Automobile Cruise Control System

An Automobile Cruise Digital Control System is designed using MATLAB code.

This control system can realize zero steady state error to step

disturbances and step reference input, and satisfy the transient response

requirement.

Programming for Solving High-Level Equations using C++ Language
