SELECTED KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
o Utilized comprehensive knowledge of budgetary and accounting
principles to create innovative process for streamlining financial
accounting and reconciliation of department operating budgets for
University of Denver. Result: Successfully transformed antiquated
and ineffective accounting system into substantially accurate and
precise financial resource utilized by University executives.
Accounting practices now comply with the newly adopted "Best
Practices" as outlined by Sarbanes-Oxley and adopted by University
Board.
o Researched a union contract and consulted with management regarding
options during a major disagreement among senior union employees as to
appropriate vacation bidding and vacation relief schedules.
Implemented a seldom-used clause in the contract that allowed the
company to completely reschedule all union shifts, redesigned the
schedule to better fit the needs of the operation, and put it out to
bid on a seniority basis. Result: Addressed and solved union
members' concerns about the equity of vacation assignments, and
vacation relief schedules. The operation gained a more fluid
scheduling process with better coverage. Ultimately, company was able
to eliminate one FTE thus reducing labor costs.
o Played a key roll in restructuring the data collection and compilation
process for the Division of Business and Financial Affairs. It uses a
Balanced Scorecard method of reporting annual financial information as
it relates to the overall operations of the University. Evaluated the
collection and compilation process and spoke to all of the individuals
who were responsible for providing information. Prepared one master
copy of the presentation then coordinated and scheduled individuals to
input their information directly into the master. Result: Completed
the project in three weeks as opposed to two months and the process
now allows all key people to make a direct contribution to the
finished product.
o Owned two legal, non-conforming commercial buildings that were not
generating enough revenue to cover the cost of their maintenance.
Conceptualized a better use for the property, wrote a business plan,
and secured $1.5M in funding. Engaged in comprehensive coordination
with county and state regulatory and permitting authorities,
