Responsible for all aspects of software engineering, architectural design, database and

information system development and management. As part of company’s key management,

successfully transformed BioArray from a bio-tech start-up making proprietary molecular

diagnostic systems for DNA analysis of blood into a revenue-generating company, which was

purchased by Immucor for $117M.

Achievements include:

• Contributed as Company’s key member to grow business from zero to $5 M annual

revenue.

• Built and led the team of software engineers, as well as database and IT system

administrators. Recruited the team members and developed training programs for them.

• Established an inspiring vision to build a global, centralized, thin-client, web-based and

database-driven information system (BASIS), which communicates in real-time with

Company’s biochip imaging instruments deployed in the field and provides data analysis

and reporting services to the customers in hospitals and blood centers, by using some

cutting-edge technologies, such as Service Oriented Architecture ( SOA) and Software as

a Service (SaaS).

• Led the BASIS product development program and managed all SDLC related projects

(http://basisglobal.com) in July 2005, within very short timeframe and with very limited

resource.

• Built and operated an IT infrastructure networking several data centers with CISCO

routers, switches, and firewalls, as well as 20+ physically distributed servers and SANs

running databases and web application servers, to host a variety of BASIS environments:

from development, to beta testing, to production.

• Built and operated company’s database and data warehouse systems, using SQL Server

2005/2008, together with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Services

(SSAS), Reporting Services (SSRS), Business Intelligence Development Studio, and in-

house developed ETL tools, to support all BASIS applications and to communicate with

customer’s lab information systems (LIMs) and databases directly over internet.

• Developed all imaging and interfacing software to allow BASIS communicate in real time

with internal and customer computer systems, such as automated instruments, LIMs, and

relational database management system (RDBMS), using standard interfaces such as

HL7 and ASMT.

• Made BASIS a validated product for CE marking and FDA submission, as a class III

medical device (IVD/IVDD). BASIS is already CE marked and pending for FDA approval.

• Made BASIS a key and valuable component of Company’s business, with more than

270,000 customer runs reached at the end of 2009.

• Interfaced with company and customer personnel at all management levels (R&D,

Product Development, Operations, QA/RA, Marketing & Sales, Customer Support).

Collected new requirements, coordinated system changes, and improved BASIS

iteratively.

• Grew BASIS to a global networking system connecting more than 40 instruments

worldwide, installed on the customer side, including leading blood centers, hospitals, and

Responsible for IT system administration and software development project management for

Maher Terminals, which is one of the largest container port operators in the US and uses a lot of

cutting-edge technologies, automated equipment and IT systems.

Achievements include:

• Administrated and managed several IT systems on a daily basis, which are the core

components to build Company’s IT infrastructure for daily operations, including ORACLE

9i as database engine, ORACLE 9iAS, Apache Tomcat as web server and servlet engine,

and in-house developed C/C++/JAVA software running on LINUX, NT and VMS.

• Developed a wireless communication management system for straddle movement, a core

component of the real-time container port information management infrastructure. This

system consists of a client software installed on each straddle, a server software, and an

UDP/IP based communication protocol to allow each client communicate with the server

over the broadband wireless network and to build a wireless multicasting messaging

infrastructure. The system was web-based and implemented in C++/JAVA on Windows

NT and VMS.

• Developed a GUI and web based system for real-time vessel and rail planning, another

core component of the real-time container port information management infrastructure.

Led the development of this system using the JAVA/J2EE multi-tiered architecture, which

consists of several thin-client applications, a middleware running on an application server

(ORACLE 9iAS), and a database system (ORACLE 9i). The system is web based and

has many advanced GUIs and graphic animations to help planners making plans and

monitoring all vessel/rail loading operations in real-time.

Neuromedical Systems was the first medical device company in the world successfully

developed the FDA approved scanner ( PAPNET) for automated screening of PAP Smears

to detect cervical cancers and pre-cancerous conditions.

Achievements include:

• Led and managed several software/system development projects to manage different

kind of information and content, such as text information, medical images and diagnostic

data.

• Developed a software system to evaluate and improve the cytological performance of the

PAPNET system.

• Developed an imaging database management system to index, store, and retrieve a large

amount of diagnostic data and information including digital color cell images, which is the

basic building block to build a virtual and remote pathology system.

• Led and managed several R&D projects to develop a new generation of algorithms for

object recognition from color images, based on pattern recognition, machine vision,

image analysis, and neural network technologies.

• Developed a new, neural network based classifier for cancer cell detection and

recognition, which can be trained automatically using sample image data to recognizing

different types of cancer cells with very high accuracy and specificity.

color/motion, data fusion/classification of remotely sensed imageries.
