KIA MOTORS MANUFACTURING GEORGIA, INC., WEST POINT, GEORGIA 2008-Present
KMMG is the first U.S. manufacturing plant for Kia Motors and began mass
production in November of 2009. KMMG will employ 2,500 employees making
300,000 automobiles per year at full capacity.
Deputy General Counsel (Head of Legal Department)
Duties: Counsel management of all levels regarding all legal issues with a
particular focus on employment, labor, benefits, and commercial law. Hire
and develop in-house attorneys and support staff. Develop HR and Legal
policies and processes. Provide training in areas of employment law,
ethics, union avoidance, positive employee relations, and servant
leadership. Provide HR support to tier-1 suppliers. Oversee
investigations and terminations. Negotiate and draft contracts. Procure
insurance and manage general liability, workers' compensation, employment
practices, and related claims. Prepare responses to administrative charges
including EEOC and OSHA. Perform wage and hour audits and compensation

RESCARE, INC., LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY 2004-2008
ResCare is the largest provider of direct care services to the mentally
retarded and a leading provider of education and training services to at-
risk youth. During this time period, ResCare grew about 10% per year,
culminating in $1.4 billion in sales and 43,000 employees in 38 states and
several countries.
Vice-President of Labor and Employee Relations
Duties: Manage the labor relations, employee relations, and affirmative
action team as well as one-half of the benefits teams (FSA, 401(k), stock
purchase plans). Negotiate and administer collective bargaining agreements
for 4,000 unionized employees. Provide union avoidance and employee
relations support for 39,000 non-union employees. Administered a company-
affiliated charitable entity. Developed, administered, and interpreted
company-wide HR policies and initiatives. Provided HR-related training.
Conducted investigations, disciplinary meetings, performance evaluations
and terminations.
Key accomplishments:
. Successfully integrated multiple acquisitions involving 10,000 new
employees;
. Reduced the HR Budget by approximately $750,000 annually;
. Negotiated a five year pro-management Collective Bargaining Agreement
which avoided the reoccurrence of a prior corporate campaign;

AMERICAN COMMERCIAL LINES, LLC, JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA 2000-2004
At this time, ACL was the largest inland waterway transportation company,
with nearly $800 million in sales and 3,500 employees at the time,
including approximately 700 manufacturing employees.
Associate General Counsel, Labor and Employment
Duties: Provided HR, legal, and business advice to Human Resources,
Benefits, Risk Management, Safety, Quality, Drug Free Workplace, and
Auditing/Compliance departments. Defended EEOC, NLRB, FLSA, DOL and other
administrative charges. Conducted investigations. Conducted employment
and safety audits. Provided ethics and union avoidance training on a
company-wide basis.

. Eliminated employment litigation and reducing EEOC charges by more

Kentucky's then-largest law firm with approximately 250 attorneys
Partner, Labor and Employment Section
Duties: Conducted all phases of litigation from discovery through trial in
the areas of labor law, employment law, wage and hour, commercial law, and
related tort claims. Counseled clients regarding Title VII, ADA, ADEA,
ERISA, FLMA, FLSA, OSHA, OWBPA, and other employment related federal,
state, and local laws. Served in a human resources function for smaller
clients by preparing policies and handbooks, personally conducting
