Profile
I am a course developer with * years experience developing e-learning
courses. I am knowledgeable in all areas of the development process,
Instructional Design, and QA/troubleshooting. I have a wide range of skill
sets, strong problem-solving and editing skills, and keen attention to
detail, and a short learning curve. I have key flexibility, and have
quickly become a go-to person in each role I have filled.
Experience
Development Manager, enspire learning inc. austin, tx 2008
Assisted with resource management, task tracking, and tools development for
the Technology Department; acted as conduit between the Technology
Department and the Sales and Production departments. Worked directly with
developers to reproduce, define and resolve difficult issues that were
escalated from normal QA processes, and led complex bug resolution efforts.
Proposed and implemented improvements in source control and project
workflow; aided with deliverables, engine and asset management, and wiki
documentation.
Course developer, fusion learning inc. austin, tx 2004-2008
Assembled e-learning courses using XML and Flash on the company's
proprietary SCORM-compliant engine, working with all assets including text,
graphics, sound, and animation. Provided audio scripts, tracked courses
from beginning to completion and beyond, managed assets in version control.
Worked closely with Instructional Designers, QA, and Project Managers.
Fixed multiple bugs on every project and aided with deliverables. Employee
of the Quarter for Q4 2007. Trusted utility worker - filled other roles as
needed.
Art Processor, Human Code Austin, tx 1999-2001
Worked in a department of 40 artists producing computer games; provided
asset management and version control. Broke down complicated Flash files
to publish multiple animation sequences, and assembled the animation
sequences in the game engine. Normally on 2-3 projects at a time. Trained
others in art processing as needed.
associate professor, University of California davis, ca 1994
Visiting Lecturer for one year; taught Ceramics II and Ceramics III to
university students; participated in grad student (MFA) reviews; tutored 6
independent study students.
Skills/Accomplishments
development process:
i have excellent communication and organization skills. By request, I
expanded my role at Enspire to Development Management, which included
assisting the VP of Technology with resource scheduling, task tracking, and
interdepartmental communications; I became the point of contact for the
producers and all other departments in need of a Tech resource, or wishing
a status update for Tech aspects of projects, or who had had an emergency
crop up. Complaints in this area ceased completely when I took on this
role, and I was able to make a significant difference at Enspire within a
few short weeks.
i have a short learning curve and formidable problem-solving skills.
Within a month of starting work at Enspire, I had learned their course
engines and structure and their development process well enough to begin
proposing and implementing improvements that resulted in a standardized
process for version control and for setting up new courses, and enhanced
project workflow and communications.
Skills/Accomplishments
course development:
i am experienced in and knowledgeable about all phases of the development
process. At Fusion, my tasks overlapped those of the Instructional
Designers, Experience Designers (artists), Project Managers, Audio, and QA.
I was able to make edits to courses in any and every area, including
content, layout, graphics and animation, UI, and course structure. I was
relied upon to create audio scripts and track and name audio assets, and to
identify the correct audio files for editing. Project Managers loved me
because I was able to tell them the state and status of any given asset or
deliverable in a course at any time. Software mastery includes GECCO,
EEDO, Captivate, Articulate, Flash, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects,
Visual SourceSafe, and Office. I know XML, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and some
ActionScript. I am familiar with LMS and LCMS systems and with SCORM
compliancy.
qa and bug resolution:
i am detail oriented and thorough. At Enspire, I caught and documented a
slew of hitherto-unnoticed bugs during a final testing of a course, just
before it was to go out the door. In my second week at Enspire, I saved a
deliverable after hours by locating a course-breaking error in Enspire's
complicated Simulation XML (there was an extra space in a line of code).
Twice at Fusion, I earned client compliments for thorough and understanding
editing.
i am a workhorse. At both Fusion and Enspire, I was in demand for testing
courses and helping fix bugs, and I did a great amount of both. I have the
deduction skills to keep at a complicated bug until it's solved, and I chew
through minor bugs. At Fusion, I once fixed 65 separate bugs across 4
Captivate courses in one day.
utility work:
i am flexible and I have a wide skill set range. I am an adapter and I
focus on meeting what needs exist, so companies use me in a variety of
roles. If certain software is required for a project, I will learn it; if
a new process needs to be developed, I will find one that is efficient and
effective. At Fusion I went from developing a 14-course project, to
crawling through Excel spreadsheets and editing algebraic equations in
Flash for two months straight for another client, to developing a 28 course
project and then localizing it to the Chinese language.
