EXPERIENCE

Managing multiple development teams for portfolio comprising of network
infrastructure, services and security products. Definition and execution of
vision and strategy for multiple concurrent programs. Technology evaluation and
key consultant for investment in new initiatives. Identification of and
collaboration with business partnerships, such as OEM or purchase technology, and
acquisition evaluation. Tighter engagement with pre- and post-sales teams' and
customer support through periodic calls and ongoing training for quicker
turnaround times for resolution of customer cases. Executive briefings.
Successfully created and justified the business case and demonstrated
technological feasibility to integrate intrusion protection technology in a
routing device. Built and trained, both development and quality assurance teams,
from grounds up across San Jose, CA and Boulder, CO. Took ownership of the
program and went on to introduce industry-first router-integrated IPS product to
the market.
Defined vision and strategy for the above program and navigated the roadmap
through three marketing re-organizations. Actively sought and successfully
enabled partnership opportunities within and outside Cisco with focus on
increasing program revenues. The program culminated as one of the largest
deployments of an IPS product with over 250,000 installations and annual revenue
targets of $250 million.
Stepped up to take ownership of existing and mature "crown jewel" firewall
product line when it was in operationally challenged situation - without any
team, major quality issues, without any upgrade releases in over two years, and
unsustainably over-extended code base. Created a "turnaround" operational plan
and built a transition and eventually permanent team from grounds up across San
Jose, CA and Chennai, India that improved quality metrics by 67%. Introduced
active engagement with escalation and field teams through regular meetings that
reduced customer case escalations to minimum levels. Revamped the outdated
roadmap to transition code base to steady and sustainable level - through
surgical pruning and targeted EOL of duplicate functionality and restoring focus
to "bang for buck" items.
Above programs contributed to increase in annual revenues from $100 million to $1
billion in five years.
Took ownership of another program in the area of service virtualization
struggling with delivery and quality issues and team dysfunction. Turned around
the program by addressing team dysfunction and improving operations that resulted
in successful delivery of technology on one platform while exceeding quality
standards. Based on this, successfully evangelized use of the technology in
several other platforms - increasing revenue exposure by $380 million annually.
Salvaged and re-injected technology from cancelled program with flagging team
morale, into two new diverse R&D programs and re-vitalized the team morale.
Actively recruited to triple the team size and led R&D effort to successfully
demonstrate technological feasibility. Established program viability based on
business plan of $200 million in annual revenues by working closely with
marketing, field and partner teams.
Actively contributed, with my team, to Cisco's patent portfolio based on
innovations introduced over several years.

Senior Software Engineer

Responsible for architecture, design and development for UTM products like IOS
firewall, intrusion detection, URL filtering and authentication proxy. Active
evangelist for the use of these products. Responsible for developing test plans
and executing on them by developing appropriate test software and harness for
functionality, interoperability, performance and scalability testing.
Single-handedly sustained the product line for over 3 years through quality
improvements, customer support, and performance and scalability improvements.
Created and executed on training and mentoring program to assimilate a new team
of 6 engineers in Boulder, CO in product development. Continued use of this plan
for a team of 5 engineers in Bangalore, India and subsequently in my next
position for two other teams of 9 engineers in Bangalore, India and Chennai,
India. This program found continued use by other managers and senior engineers as
the team grew.
Created one-of-a-kind web-based on-demand regression framework using Perl,
Javascript and relational databases in Oracle, that grew in user base from 30
beta users to adoption by 1000s of users company-wide and still the de-facto
tool-of-choice throughout the company.
Introduced innovative technologies for test code portability and manageability
that amounted to significant savings in test development and test execution
times.
