Summary

Detail-oriented engineer with experience in mechanical and materials

engineering. Comfortable working on challenging problems that require

resourceful thinking. Takes initiative to identify areas of conflict with

analysis methods, tools, or variables ensuring technical quality. Ability

to analyze large amounts of initial data and use results to reach a

consolidated conclusion. Experience with projects and work in the following

technical areas:

Materials Suitability Remaining Life Assessment

Fitness for Service Standards and Regulatory Compliance

Inspection

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

EXXONMOBIL RESEARCH AND ENGINEERING, Fairfax, VA 2/2007 - 12/2009

Advanced Engineer, 1/2008 - 12/2009

Support refineries with recommendations to ensure safe, reliable, and

economically efficient operation while managing risk. Participate as

materials specialist in multi-disciplinary teams in site peer audits and

failure assessments. Perform fitness for service assessments according to

API 579.

Corrosion and Degradation

. Capitalized on immediate $1-million savings for one refinery and

opened the door for future yearly accommodations by allowing

opportunity crude purchases within calculated short and long term

operating envelopes calculated from detailed statistical analysis of

three successive inspections of the unit.

. Uncovered incorrect material specified for tubes in late stage

environmental compliance project. Led to investigation of corrosion by

ammonium bisulfate salts and the risk of non-compliance due to

unexpected failure along with shortened unit run length. New findings

from study to affect design decisions of all five future compliance

projects.

Fitness for Service

. Evaluated furnace tubes for accumulated creep damage and remaining

life as a function of maximum operating temperature. Presented results

to customer which allowed an extension of runlength for four years,

preventing an unnecessary planned shutdown, while maintaining

profitable operating temperatures.

o In one assessment, prevented a downtime incident by detecting

an error in previous evaluation.

Company Standards and Manual Development

. Proposed, d, eveloped and prioritized scope for a first edition

Delayed Coker Maintenance Guide after realizing frequent economic

losses from notably unreliable unit.

o Managed the completion of the first installment with network,

contractors, and subject matter experts to utilize existing

information.

o Developed consistent on-stream and turnaround maintenance and

detailed welding repair procedures to minimize unit downtime

and maximize profitability.

o Authored 50+ page sections on inspection and repair of coke

drums providing

. Investigated site records, procedures, and personnel knowledge in

three separate site peer audits for fulfillment of critical inspection

programs and failure investigations.

Inspection

. Prolonged run length of submarine pipeline, experiencing localized

corrosion, by three years through review and analysis of successive

pigging inspections. Established expected corrosion rates, confirmed

success of repaired areas, and identified additional areas for repair

to allow safe operation.

Materials Engineer, 2/2007- 12/2007

Internal consultant for refineries and capital projects in the areas of

materials selection, corrosion and degradation of existing equipment, and

equipment inspection. Coordinated necessary updates to company manuals,

documents, and procedures.

. Authored 40 page materials suitability report detailing expected

corrosion and degradation of two hydrofining units due to a change in

feed. Analyzed the effect change in process conditions would have on

corrosion rates and equipment life. Recommended corrosion control

procedures and necessary material upgrades for reliable operation.

. Composed (2) four hour training courses on corrosion and corrosion

control in refining which were implemented as required training course

for all technical employees globally.

. Reviewed new construction and equipment repair plans for material

suitability, appropriate welding procedures, and compliance with company

and industry inspection requirements for over 25 mechanical

specifications.

Rockwell automation, Chelmsford, MA 6/2006 - 12/2006

Mechanical Engineering Intern

Support mechanical design engineers in prototype development and component

quality assurance for manufacturing safety sensing tools. Designed and

modeled components in ProE environment, with an end result of producing

mechanical drawings for modifications to existing products.

. Designed light curtain mounting packages for an existing product line.

Provided prototypes and cost estimate and created presentation for

marketing.

. Conducted qualification measurements and testing on prototype seals and

housing units to ensure product quality and ensure adequate tolerances

from manufacture.

. Designed fixtures to be used for in-house vibrations testing to reduce

environmental impact on false readings during testing.
