Project Description:
The project aims at producing reports on performance of hospitals in Texas
Medical Center area, Houston. The source for these reports is the
administrative data that hospitals record for billing purposes. This data
contains patient details, diagnosis or procedure information, discharge
status and presiding physician's details. The hospitals are compared based
on volume and mortality indicators. The report includes a database of
hospitals performance from 2003 through 2007, as well as bar charts and
tables for each of the measures.
Roles and Responsibilities:
. Extracted the data from SQL Server database to create a SAS
repository, using SAS/ACCESS.
. Divided the repository into different datasets, one for each year
starting from 2003.
. Used Proc Report to categorize the dataset based on diagnoses and
surgeries performed.
. Calculated the success and failure rates for each diagnosis and
surgery.
. Used SAS/STAT to create pie diagrams and bar charts to show the
hospital performance based on volume and mortality indicators.

answer mission-critical questions. The point-of-sale data (or source data)
from the retailers is in different forms like EDI files and flat files.
These data marts help in identifying stock-outs, tracking sales and
inventory, and forecasting customer demand.
