Profile
Multilingual Professional Engineer with demonstrated ability to take
company and/or R&D/Engineering departments to a higher level of performance
and profitability. Confident, creative, engaging and open minded that can
take on any challenge.
Strong management skills
Successfully manage programs, engineering personnel, projects and
engineering standards and procedures for more than 10 years. Developed new
management plans, workflow and standards, after a full review of the
existing system in place, in several ISO certified companies. Excellent
communicator, motivate coworkers/promote teamwork and ability to find
common language with employees from different levels/areas of expertise. At
TANCO averaged 5% below allotted budget for all projects and
MOLDMASTERS/MTI/ATPI finished projects in time or earlier than forecasts.
Building new/improving existing R&D program
Build ATPI R&D program from the ground up by evaluating long/short term
goals, budget/resources available and creating a flexible plan. Develop
testing procedures, design universal test bench, procure test bench
components/materials and aligned resources (space/personnel) to accommodate
testing with small cost increase. Test bench/procedures are designed to
test for insulation (wet insulation, current leakage, etc) of solar
products according to UL standards. In addition was able to foster new
partnership with University of Manitoba to use their testing
facilities/equipment at significant less cost (50% less) then outsourcing
testing to laboratories.
Elevate MoldMasters R&D program within a short period of time (6 months) to
unprecedented heights (well established program in place for more than 30
years). Develop new modeling and simulation techniques that reduced FEA
simulation time by 50%. Design new validation tests for FEA simulation and
established new simulation/testing guidelines for R&D engineers. For the
first time through research with collaboration of University of Toronto
introduced calculation sheets for FEA simulation team and design engineers
to calculate convection coefficient in enclosed spaces (combination of
free/forced convection and radiation).
Strong technical background/hands on
Designed new product/methods and have patents issued at MoldMasters and
MTI. Currently designed overmolded solar connector and T/Y junctions (both
pending UL approval) and in the process of designing new overmolded
junction boxes and fuse holders for solar applications. At Moldmasters
developed new technique of balancing hot runners in injection molding
applications. At MTI developed a new passive silencer design that
suppressed noise in business jets by 50% or more able to achieve noise
levels similar to library standards (30DB). Not afraid to take on any
challenge, in any field and to get hands dirty and build prototypes myself.
Currently build my own prototypes when necessary to visualize solution and
identify manufacturing issues in addition to modeling and simulation.
Advanced Reasearch
More than 6 years of experience with ANSYS (up to V12), Solidworks,
Moldflow, AutoCad and MatLab. Primarily, have used ANSYS (MultiPhysics and
CFX) at MoldMasters and ATPI, to analyze thermal profile, heat losses,
stresses, thermal stresses and fatigue failures to design new products and
solve problems. FEA experience includes thermal (steady state, transient),
structural (static, non-linear, fatigue) and meshing optimization. Very
experienced with flow analysis moldflow simulating shrinkage, best gate
location/size, warp, stresses, overmolding, weld lines. Expert in modeling
for FEA simulation, boundary condition set up of analysis and using FEA in
conjecture with calculations. Experience with SolidWorks modeling large
assemblies, quick modeling of ideas/prototypes, generate drawings, and
prepare model for FEA analysis.
Experience Highlights
Engineering Manager (Solar Products)
2009 - Present
Amphenol Technical Products International (ATPI)
Manage all solar projects, personnel, UL relations, solar shows, solar
products, quotes/inquiries, R&D, testing and outsourcing. New product
design of UL approved solar products (connectors, junction boxes, fuses
boxes and splices) and automotive (pass-through overmolds, connectors,
overmold junctions and wire overmolding). Use 3-D modeling (Solidworks) and
FEA (MoldFlow and ANSYS) to determine injection molding weld lines,
shrinking, gate location/size, fill pattern, core shifting, thermal
profile, operation stresses, fatigue limits and optimize the design. Manage
all work and communication with UL, CSA and TUV to get approval of new
solar products. Experience with APQP and PPAP.
Projects Manager
2008 - 2009
Cabot Corporation, Tanco Plant
Responsible for planning, organizing and directing various capital and
major expense projects for the Tanco plant. Consulted with respective plant
department managers to evaluate the degree of involvement of outside
engineering and/or construction services, discuss scope, conceptual design
and related parameters. Developed capital justification documents, project
plans and schedule, cost estimates, tendering documents), cost/benefit
evaluation documents and negotiate contracts. Manage simultaneously up to
10 projects with budgets up to $750,000. Foster excellent community
relationship by designing and organizing the annual High School Design
Competition.
Project Engineer (R&D)
2005 - 2008
Mold Masters Limited
Bring forward R&D project proposals, cost analysis estimates and budget
requirements. Coordinated and managed work among R&D engineering, customer
service and manufacturing departments. DOE, test bench and data acquisition
system design. Develop new modeling and simulation techniques, calculation
sheets and validation tests. Perform FEA simulations (ANSYS), Flow analysis
(ANSYS CFX, Moldflow) and 3-D modeling (SolidWorks). Established new
engineering design standards based on structural, thermal and fatigue
limits requirements for hot runner system components (injection molding).
Worked with manufacturing to help build test set ups, solve manufacturing
problems and improve manufacturing processes. Hold training sessions with
design engineers to introduce existing product changes, new products and
changes to the guidelines.
R&D Engineer (Aircraft Silencer)
2004 - 2005
Magnifoam Technology Inc. (MTI)
In collaboration with R&D engineers developed and patented a new aircraft
silencer targeted for the business jet s market. Designed test bench
according to industry standards (ASTM) and developed software to optimize
theoretical design. Through testing of 69 different materials and
combinations built a data base that would serve as a future design
guideline. Improvements in the final design include; better noise
attenuation at low frequencies, more consistent performance at wider range
of frequency. New silencer performed 50% better (in sound attenuation) then
the best silencer in the market. Recommendations were made to improve
manufacturability and design in compliance with Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) guidelines.
Engineering Summer Student
Summer 2003
Aerospace Division - Magnifoam Technology Inc. (MTI)
Created and validated electronic patterns, according to drawing
specifications send by customers (Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer), used to
make thermal and acoustic aircraft insulation system. Recommending
manufacturing process improvements and evaluating the work required to
adjust fabrication and assembly. Supervising the first assembly activities
for new designs and verifying the conformance with drawing requirements.
