SUMMARY
Experienced SQA veteran with extensive knowledge of all quality testing
best-practices. Adept at working cross-functionally with all stakeholder
departments to improve processes and implement improvements to all aspect
of testing.
Professional Experience:
Palm, Inc. Sunnyvale, CA (Nov. 1999-June 2010)
Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer
. In conjunction with two person development team architected and
managed the conversion from Palm's antiquated testing database system
to an updated and feature rich system that was capable of interfacing
with the existing defect-tracking system. This effort required
interfacing with all QA departments to insure that the massive amount
of existing data was migrated to the new system. The new system was
brought online seamlessly, without interruption to the ongoing testing
effort of QA (migrated 96K test cases, 3K test suites, 12.5K test
runs). Continued to manage all aspects of the new system including:
designing new features, creating help files, providing team-level
training, addressing defects within the system, and daily system
administration. Supported 160 daily users.
. Analyzed previous cell phone development projects with an eye toward
the accuracy of defect management. This effort revealed many
inconsistencies and inaccurate defect resolutions (analysis revealed
areas that wasted two person-months worth of project time). Organized
a team of senior SQA individuals to use the gleaned knowledge to
invoke major changes in the way defects were processed. The team's
recommendation were adopted and resulted in significant changes to the
defect-tracking system that provided more accurate defect resolution
and reporting.
. With the support of senior SQA management, organized and conducted
regular meetings with SQA project and component Lead individuals.
These meetings were designed to promote best-practices across all
quality groups, and to identify areas where testing was being impeded
by processes or tools. This effort resulted in a more consistent
approach to all aspects of SQA testing.
. In conjunction with department Director and one development engineer,
designed and implemented a comprehensive dashboard-style reporting
feature for the testing database. This feature allowed all SQA
departments to analyze and report on all testing efforts at the
project level as well as the component level. This level of reporting
was previously non-existent.
palmOne, Inc. Milpitas, CA
Senior QA Lead
. Lead four cell phone projects that advanced the company cell phone
line. (Treo 600 and Treo 650, GSM and CDMA versions).
. Project Lead for initial Voice Dialing application. Interfaced with
external and internal development teams to insure a robust, quality
application was integrated into the product.
. Developed and presented to the entire SQA department a detailed
training session on the proper method of creating and filing defect
records. The resulting standardization in how defects were reported
greatly decreased the instances of defects being pushed back to the
reporter by the development engineers for clarification or additional
information. The document that was created from this endeavor (The Art
of Filing Bugs) is still used by Palm; a link to the document is
provided from the defect tracking system's pages.
Handspring, Inc. Mountain View, CA
SQA Lead
. QA Project Lead for Treo 180 and Treo 300. Managed a team of 4-6 SQA
testing engineers. Reported to management on all aspects of testing.
Chaired all bug scrub meetings. Worked cross-functionally with
Development, Product Marketing and Customer Support to insure
successful product releases.
. Developed initial testing requirements to insure that Handspring
products would be compliant with all Federal requirements for hearing-
impaired use of the companies cell phone products (TTY). Tested
initial products for TTY compliance and trained other SQA engineers on
the testing process.
. QA Project Lead for Visor Phone. This was the first cell phone product
for Handspring. Created initial cell phone testing strategies. (Test
plans, test cases, test suites and general testing methodologies).
This established the basis for all subsequent cell phone testing
efforts
