Dear Sir, or Madam
I spent 30 years working at Raley's. Raley's is a Grocery Retailer located
in Northern California. During my career Raley's grew from 29 to 129
Stores doing 3.4b in Sales. Currently, Raley's is suffering with much of
the Retail Industry, has downsized, and I am looking for a new Career
opportunity.
I've performed many functions with Raley's over the years. Changing as
Raley's changed. Their needs changed as the competitive environment
dictated we change. The common theme in my resume is that I have a
demonstrated record of being flexible, adaptive and can be counted on for
even the most complex or work intensive efforts.
Over the years many important events have happened to Raley's, corporately.
My Resume is a bit of a "road map" to many of the more important events at
Raley's during my career.
In the late 70's I managed 2 family owned stores of 6,000 and 13,000 sq
feet. I joined Raley's in June 1981 and spent 5 years in Operations
becoming the Manager of the Raley's in Yreka when it opened in 1983.
For 8 years between 1986 and 1994 I worked in Raley's HR/Training
Departments. I joined a newly created Training Department and served as
the Director of Training until 1989. In 1989 Raley's created a full HR
Department in place of a more traditional "Personnel Department." When it
was created I joined that team and served as an HR Generalist for 15
Raley's Stores for 5 years until 1994. During that time I had multi-unit
responsibility for all of the Stores HR practices.
In 1994 I joined the Buying Department for the first time for 6 years.
Primarily I functioned as Raley's sole Business Analyst for the Buying
Department. During that time Raley's purchased Bel Air then Nob Hill and
then 9 Albertsons Stores in New Mexico. Part of my function during that
time was to perform as the Project Manager for each acquisition.
Integrating the Buying, Pricing, Assortment practices and systems into
Raley's. Essentially folding their pre-existing Merchandising practices
and IT applications into Raley's processes and systems.
In 2000 I left the Buying Department and for 5 years I worked in Raley's IT
Department as the Data Warehouse Manager. The Data Warehouse at Raley's
initially came on line, in 2000. For the most part I spent that 5 years
sourcing data and providing reporting to the Buying Department. By virtue
of this time I am a Certified MicroStrategy Systems Administrator, am SQL
proficient and learned to turn "data" into real "actionable information."
I rejoined the Buying Department as a Senior Buyer in 2004 for the last 6
years. Serving as a Buyer for 2 years and then promoted to Sr. Director
within the Buying Department. My role then was to provide support
services, Analysis and Sr. Management for all of Raley's Buyers. I also
managed the following teams as part of my org structure. Pricing (17),
Item Maintenance (6), Business Analysts (5), Replenishment (10) &
Schematics (20).
During the course of my career I have managed a staff as large as 80+ most
recently. I have had full P&L Budget accountability and managed budgets
ranging in the many millions. During my last 4 years as the Sr. Director
in Raley's Buying Department I was also accountable for Raley's Corporate
margin on 3.4b in Sales.
Attached is my Resume. I hope you will consider me for this opening and I
look forward to discussing it with you.

Sincerely,
Bob Ramsey

location in Cameron Park, California. They were along the lines of a Rite
Aide as they are today, complete with Pharmacies. During that time my
responsibilities were typical of a sole proprietorship. I hired, fired,
checked, stocked and cleaned. I also performed as the Accounting
Department, Payroll Dept and Advertising Department. Overall my experience
here was broad and very intensive.
The most important thing I took away from my time self employed in the
Retail industry is an appreciation for the difference between "doing
business" with your personal money rather than a Corporations money.
