Periodontal assistant introduced to OMF procedures. Assisted with periodontal

procedures, as well as maintained all periodontal stock and ordering. Introduced to

OMF procedures including: Wisdom teeth removal (FB, partial and soft tissue

impaction) with and without General Anesthesia, I & D, and facial fracture repair.

Before OMF surgery began responsibilities included: prepping the operating area in

accordance with scheduled procedure, prescription preparation, Anesthesia and

surgery consent form completed, obtaining and recording the patient's vital signs,

going over and updating medical history, and attaching monitoring equipment to the

patient. During surgical procedures assisted with a variety of tasks including:

monitoring the patient's vital signs, passing surgical tools, surgical dressing

preparation and suture preparation, and making sure the patient does not breathe in

fluids during the procedure and that the patient's lips, cheeks and tongue are

protected from unnecessary injury. After surgery continued to monitor patients vital

signs and instruct their guardian on proper post-operation care. Other duties

completed for OMF team included: Appointment scheduling and confirmation, stocking

of materials for each surgical room, and gathering all paperwork needed to submit

preauthorization for insurance approval.

develop x-rays, FMX, PA's, entered treatment plan into Dentrix computer system.

Sterilized the dental instruments and implant surgical kits as well as preparing

instruments for Periodontal Surgery such as: surgical blade, blade holder,

retractors, suturing materials, surgical burs, and surgical kits. Assisted in dental

periodontal surgical procedures such as: osseous surgery, free gingival grafts,

connective tissue grafts, dental implants, crown lengthening, bone grafting, ridge

augmentation, simple and surgical extractions, starting patients on Nitrous oxide,

explaining NPO/N2O, explaining post-op instructions to patients, receiving consent

for treatment, and dismissal of patient. Coordinated extractions with temporary

flipper completion, coordinated surgical stents for free gingival grafts and

implants with patient's general dentist. Remove Sutures and go over oral hygiene

instructions until next visit. Call pt. regarding pre-operative instructions,

prescriptions and pre-medications required. Call patient's local pharmacy regarding

prescriptions needed prior to the treatment appointment. Educate the patient about

post-op instructions and assist with postoperative visits following initial

treatment.
