and applied specialized skills and techniques using geographic information

systems, computer cartography, spatial statistical analysis, and remote

sensing to real world applications. Classwork included open source online

interactive mapping, remote sensing and image processing of the

environment, landscape ecology, geographic information systems analysis,

modeling, and programming, spatial demography, and quantitative methods in

geographic research.

San Diego State University Foundation ~ Graduate Assistant Aug '09 to

May '10

Acquired, cleaned, generated and manipulated tabular demographic datasets

to join with spatial data in ArcGIS for spatial analysis of demographic

processes. Performed quality assurance measures on datasets by running

summary statistics to ensure a high degree of data robustness. Used

various statistical methods such as linear regression and geographically

weighted regression to identify and quantify relationships between

fertility and other demographic variables. Visualized results using ArcGIS

and Adobe Illustrator to best demonstrate found demographic relationships

both graphically and cartographically. Produced world population cartogram

for cover of forthcoming 11th edition of "Population Geography," by Dr.

John Weeks. Acquired, summarized and validated world Muslim population

data used by CNN.com for its Generation Islam Special, 2009.

City of San Diego, Parks & Recreation ~ GIS/Biology Intern May '09 to

Aug '09

Created landcover maps by utilizing the online San Diego Geographic

Information Source (SanGIS) database and ArcGIS software for San Diego's

Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP). Qualitatively surveyed and

recorded presence and health of sensitive plant species seasonally,

employing field gear such as hand-held Trimble GPS units and digital

cameras. Pre- and post-survey data management and report production for

use in MSCP publications. Provided general research and GIS support to

MSCP operations and staff.

City of Los Angeles, Environmental Affairs Department ~ Intern Jul '07

to Aug '08

Proofed Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs), served as web-master for the

Environmental Affairs Departmental website, and authored numerous

environmental articles for the Department newsletter. Performed general

office duties, and worked public education outreach events.

United States Navy ~ Aviation Electrician Third Class Jul '00 to Jul '04

Served as flight line supervisor overseeing a crew of ten. Ensured proper

electrical troubleshooting operations using a variety of electronic test

equipment. Designated as Quality Assurance Officer (QA) to check integrity

of work performed by crew to determine aircraft flightworthiness. Tested,

installed and maintained MH-60 helicopter instruments and electrical

equipment including generators, motors, lighting systems, communications,

and aircraft compass and navigation systems.
