Manager ITS: Messaging Operations: Provided skilled hands-on digital
messaging support to over 25,000 national and international users. Oversaw
maintenance, troubleshooting, security, reporting, repair and updates.
Identified problems and provided timely resolution by proactively
supervising all mail queues. Established domain and address blocking and
address rules on SMTP gateways.
. Executed and managed migration and upgrades from Exchange 5.5 to
Exchange 2003 and Active Directory. This was done once Active
Directory was established in the network, an Active Directory
Connector was installed and the Exchange 2003 servers were built.
Mailbox moves were performed using the Exchange Task Wizard. 25,000
user and functional business mailboxes were migrated.
. Built and configured Exchange 2007 servers with roles including Client
Access Server, Hub Transport Server and Mailbox Server. Migrated a
group of 2,000 test mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.
Test migrations were done using both the Exchange Task Wizard and
Quest Exchange Migration Wizard. Also tested migrations from Lotus
Notes to Exchange 2003 and 2007 using the Notes Migrator for Exchange
from Quest.
. Architected a virtual environment of Exchange servers using VMware.
This included server specifications such as CPU size, RAM, disk
carving, and processor capacity. Multiple tests were performed to
test a mixed mode environment of Exchange 2003 and 2007 servers.
. Supervised safe and efficient migration of Exchange servers to new
data center location. This was done with the installation of 4
"swing" Exchange servers as users were moved to these "swing" servers
when their original home server was scheduled to be moved to the new
data center. These moves were all done transparent to the users and
very limited down time was noticed as all moves were conducted off-
hours. Once the original servers were racked in their new data center
location, the user mailboxes were moved back to their original
servers. This project also allow for user to perform some database
cleanup as we were able to free up some white space to allow for
better performance.
. Conducted extensive testing of Exchange replication and failover to DR
site. 2 servers were built with identical specs and one was shipped
to our DR site to act and the DR server for the master server in our
production site. Replication was performed using WanSynchHA. Once
the data from the master server was completely replicated and the
appropriate DNS modifications were made, a switchover was performed.
The DR server became the master server and performed with normal
functionality. Multiple rounds of testing were performed both before
and after the switchover.
. Managed Microsoft Office Communicator (OCS) implementation to pilot
user group. Troubleshot user issues with Office Communicator
including connection issues as well as functional issues. Performed
Office Communicator client upgrades when updated versions and service
packs were available.
. Assured mail server uptime through examination of successful backups
and provided restores when necessary.
. Developed and configured Internet mail connectors to increase
throughput speed of online mail flow.
. Implemented Mailsweeper program offering effective antivirus and spam
blocking programs.
. Ensured timely updates to most current operating and mail system
service packages to improve stability, security and uptime.
. Spearheaded antivirus software updates on all Exchange servers.
. Wrote and maintained documentation for various projects and day to day
operations.
. Manipulated VBScript designed to enable users to get correct network
drive mappings based on group membership and office location.
. Supported Windows Mobile devices including a Blackberry and BES
infrastructure for Exchange. Performed basic troubleshooting for
Blackberry devices including connection issues, calendar updates and
device provisioning.
