400 Freight Services, Inc. was formed in 1985 as a wholly owned subsidiary
of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Co. Began my career with 400
Freight Services, Inc as the Operations Manager. Acquired the corporation
at the beginning of 1988 and was responsible for all of the financial and
operational details associated with the successful management of a
transportation logistics company. Chief services provided consisted of
motor carrier and intermodal transportation and ancillary warehousing
service.
Possess extensive logistical experience with the principle aspects of
transportation and warehousing such as: fleet management, inventory
control, pricing, administration, licensing, customer service, routing,
legal, operations and accounting.
Major accomplishments:
1. Company revenues peaked at $5,500,000.00 and a staff size of 19.
The company structure was continually reviewed and changes implemented
conforming to established best practices and optimizing revenues.
2. Formed a public warehousing company (Horizon Warehouse, Inc.) that
provided receiving, storage, consolidation, pick-n-pack services for a
multitude (740 SKU's) of industrial and household products.
3. Formed a motor carrier (Horizon Express, Inc.) that provided local
drayage and transportation service throughout the Chicago commercial zone.
General Manager 04/82 to 10/85
TDS Transportation, Inc. Des Plaines, IL
TDS Transportation, Inc. was a wholly owned transportation subsidiary
of Household Merchandising, Inc. which operated a multi-billion dollar
group of retail merchandising companies including Ben Franklin, Coast to
Coast, TG&Y. and Vons Grocery Company. As General Manager of TDS, I was
responsible for a portfolio of transportation operations which required
operational supervision of staff, bottom line profit accountability, sales
and marketing, in addition to servicing the needs of current customers.
Major accomplishments:
1. Conceptualized and implemented the formation of a brokerage
subsidiary generating $2,500,000.00 in gross revenues while reducing the
inbound transportation costs $310,000.00 within the first year.
2. Designed and implemented a backhaul program which produced
$3,200,000.00 in gross revenues through direct sales efforts of self and
staff. The additional business eliminated 40% of the empty miles being
traversed by the rolling stock, realizing a cost savings of $2,000,000.00
annually.
3. Developed a computerized dispatch system resulting in improved
customer service, in addition to dispatch productivity and efficiency.
Operations Manager 10/80 to 04/82
D.F. C. Transportation Company Huntley, IL
D.F.C. Transportation Company is a contract carrier for Dean Foods
Company, that was serving 48 states and two provinces with 33 company
tractors and 28 owner operators on permanent lease to D.F.C. during my
tenure. Chief functions included over-seeing the assembly of shipments,
routing equipment, securing backhauls, DOT audits, monitoring customer
needs through interaction with the sales department and the management of
four dispatchers.
Major accomplishments:
1. Obtained 48 state operating authority from the ICC that was
instrumental in a 23% reduction in empty miles and an increase in operating
revenues of $750,000.00.
2. Utilization of operating authority to trip-lease financially sound
and reliable carriers to haul company shipments 20% below prevailing market
rates.
3. Outfitted company equipment with airshields that reduced fuel
consumption by 4 percent.
Transportation Manager 05/77 to 09/80
C.F.S. Continental, Inc. Chicago, IL
Initial position was that of Distribution Supervisor. Duties included
arranging carriers for outbound shipments, rate analysis and supervising a
warehouse crew of six. Within six months I was promoted to position of
Transportation Manager for the Corporate Fleet. In this capacity, I
developed aggregate as well as detailed knowledge of the transportation
industry.
Major accomplishments:
1. Established several procedures and policies that were critical in
attaining budget the three years I was associated with C.F.S. Continental,
a feat that had eluded the Transportation Company since it's beginning in
1974.
2. During my tenure as transportation manager I was responsible for a
61% growth in equipment and a 98% increase in revenues.
3. Created a quality control program associated with providing our
customer's with timely pick-ups, timely deliveries and minimum transit
times.
