Experience
Projects:
. Artificial Urethral Wireless Valve: Mr. Allison developed an
artificial wireless valve for the urethra operated by a memory shape
alloy spring Nitinol. Heating the memory shape alloy through a PI
controller, he used pulse width modulation to control the wireless
valve's functionality in fully opening and fully closing. The result
was a product that aids those who suffer from over-active bladder
syndrome by better controlling their incontinence.
. Electrocardiogram Heart Monitoring Unit: In Mr. Allison's senior
design class, he designed and built an electrocardiogram heart
monitoring diagnostic tool that measures and records the electrical
activity of the heart in exquisite detail. An electrocardiogram heart
test can provide important information about the patient's heart
rhythm, a previous heart attack, increased thickness of heart muscle,
signs of decreased oxygen delivery to the heart, and problems with
conduction of the electrical current from one portion of the heart to
another.
. Digital Voice Recorder: Mr. Allison built a digital voice recorder in
which one minute could be both recorded and played back for the user.
A major challenge in the development of this project was to enhance
the quality of the playback audio from the user. This required the
implementation of a Low-pass Butterworth filter. Through this filter,
he aimed for the normal human voice range of 400 - 4000 Hz. As the
voice is recorded by the user, capacitors in the Low-pass filter will
charge and cancel out the noise feedback from the circuit resulting in
a clear and coherent message.

. Problem Solving and Strategic Thinking: There are many approaches to
problem solving, depending on the nature of the problem and the people
involved in the problem. Mr. Allison approaches each situation by
clarifying the description of the problem, analyzing its causes,
identifying and analyzing alternatives, choosing a plan of action,
implementing it, and finally evaluating the results.
. Planning and Organizing: Able to work independently and manage
priorities and tasks.
