Investigated chemical dissolution rates of Calcium in volcanic rocks
Volcanic rocks on high standing, tropical islands erode very fast, leading
to release of much more Ca+2 ions than previously accounted for. Currently
determining the base levels of Ca+2 in volcanic rocks from Panama and
Dominica by microscope analysis and X-Ray Fluorescence of glass beads made
from the sample, which were prepared using a diamond blade saw, jaw crusher
and lava machine. Combined with weathering rates obtained by others, will
set a baseline erosion rate to determine the subsequent Carbon absorption
rate.
