Selected achievements
Power Generation Project - "Shutdown": Created an "as-built" model of a steam
generator and its surroundings in a nuclear power plant using 3D laser technology to
produce the point cloud structure as a part of a three man team. The purpose of this
project was to prefabricate scaffolding to facilitate testing of coolant system prior
to subsequent outages. Significantly reducing the number of man hours carpenters had
to spend inside containment building them. (Cyrax Laser System, Cyclone software)
Facility improvement: Incidents involving trailer restraints on dock doors
highlighted a major safety concern over the effectiveness of the restrains. I later
determined the restraints which had been in use for several years were not designed
to handle about 40% of the trailers moving through the distribution center. After
researching trailer restraints designs and associated costs, as a matter of safety
and under my supervision all of the restraints were replaced.
Managed all aspects of enterprise I.T. (4 years) from internet MPLS and frame relay
bandwidth (all telecom) to wireless network providers. Provided support for entire
network and desktop community. Maintained network connections including a local
fiber link. Developed close working relationships with technicians, account reps,
and on occasion company executives. Developed/discovered/proved new technologies for
company use.
3-D CAD implementation: Implemented 3-D CAD system for a steel service center whose
specialty included most all abrasion and wear resistant applications for a wide
variety of industries including mining, paper, forestry, and quarries. This project
reduced the time necessary to produce production drawings and CNC programs, and
reduced the number of errors in the shop on custom assembly fabrications/weldments.
(AutoCAD, Inventor, TurboNest, CNC G code)
Developed, Organized, and Taught AutoCAD and Inventor course objectives while also
providing educational benchmarks for a junior college curriculum. Along with
assignments from the course text, I used relevant material from an old drafting book
increasing student's proficiency with the software and experience with the
concepts.(7 years)
Consulted on a Solidworks Implementation for a small machine shop in Birmingham.
Helpped evaluate software requirements and assisted with purchase decision. Helpped
train the oporator to use Solidworks after installation. (Solidworks, ProNest, CNC G
code)
Learned and implemented Linux operating system along with various specialized pieces
of Open Source software used to provide a wide range of network services. Discovered
several open source tools which helped manage network and desktop resources. Began
running/testing a Linux email server and an IPSEC connection from Linux to the office
firewall (MS ISA 2004) out of my home
Process Improvement / Material Handling: Completed major alterations to an existing
piece of custom equipment using reverse engineering techniques. In order to improve
process continuity for operators while freeing up company resources to further
production goals. (AutoCAD)
