INTRODUCTION:
My extensive architectural career as an Architectural Healthcare Division
Director enables me to bring a wealth of performance and experience to
your organization. My principle directives have included defining
project scopes for new and renovated healthcare projects large and small.
This included leading my team to itemize aspects such as space
utilization, site analysis, infrastructure and technology requirements.
I led the project scheduling process by establishing deadlines and
milestones throughout all development phases. Budgeting, value
engineering, and owner representation processes were accomplished through
my substantial direction.
My education, lengthy experience, and professional direction resulted in
all healthcare projects under my supervision including new hospitals to
be successfully completed both on budget and on schedule. My goal is to
continue in this capacity to complete new healthcare projects as I have
done throughout my career--by professionally and creatively utilizing my
talents with your firm.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Managerial:
As Division Director I had primary architectural responsibility for the
overall project success. This mainly included, but was not limited to,
supervising the project team and liaising with all involved project
consultants.
While at HHCP I personally managed an office staff of 20 to 35
individuals.
This consisted of project architects, project designers, planners,
programmers, managers, coordinators as well as office and construction
administrators and marketing staff.
I assisted the client with project scope, budget, and scheduling.
I further assisted planners, programmers and designers to interface
directly with the client representatives and facility staff to complete
the preliminary, the design development, and the construction drawing
phases of the project.
I guided the client through the bidding phase.
This included pre-qualification of contractors and pre-bid orientation
for the construction process.
I assisted with the solvency of our division.
I personally negotiated and created contracts for architectural and
consultant fees. I also helped establish project budgets and spreadsheet
tools for the improved management of fees.
My responsibilities also included legal assistance pertaining to project
approvals. By testifying as an expert witness in the field of healthcare
architecture, our team was able to win state approval for several
projects. (Department of Administrative Affairs, Tallahassee, Florida)
Essential tasks also included supporting the marketing department with
new business development. I greatly contributed to the marketing team by
presenting projects on a competitive basis for the purpose of obtaining
new business. Specific contributions include the following:
1. Speaker at industry conferences
2. Created marketing presentations
3. Wrote articles for current trade journals
4. Spearheaded innovative use of 3D visualizations
Office Environment:
Most projects were assigned to a team ranging from five to fifty
professionals. This included consultant coordination, agency reviews,
bidding and construction support through project close-out and beyond.
Not all projects required a large team. A small number of healthcare
projects were completed by me with only one or two assistant support
staff.
Handling day-to-day staff problems as well as staff retreats, technology
education and professional development presentations were part of my
normal human resource responsibilities as Division Director.
In addition to these responsibilities, I also headed up two successful
office renovation projects for our own workplace environment.
As you can see, my roles included just about everything associated with
running a small architectural office that earned millions of dollars per
year. My Division had the highest document productivity and employee morale
in the entire organization.
PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO:
Recent Experience:
While at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston I
functioned as the Senior Project Manager for the Healthcare Recovery
effort to rebuild the damaged portions of the campus and lead the team in
liaison with FEMA. The budget for these projects exceeded $200,000,000.
Throughout my 18 years at HHCP Healthcare, I have managed the design and
construction of more than 200 healthcare projects ranging from small
renovations to acute care replacement and new hospitals.
Project Experience Examples:
1. New acute care hospitals and major additions;
2. Expansions and renovations to update facilities
3. Women's Health Facilities
4. Neonatal Care
5. Emergency Care
6. Surgery
7. Radiology
8. Pharmaceutical Departments
9. Ambulatory Care
10. Other medical, surgical, clinical and administrative support
services.
I personally managed the design and development of three new replacement
hospitals. I was personally responsible for maintaining the construction
budget, the scheduling of document preparation, and the monitoring of all
changes to the projects resulting in zero change orders. This was
accomplished through a well-managed value engineering process.
