In preparation for my Marketing career, I enrolled in Advertising Strategy,

Public Relations, Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research, Multi-National

Marketing, Marketing on the Internet, Retail Marketing, and Marketing

Policy and Strategy.

Participated in a simulation called Pharmasim. Key tasks included:

Took the role of a brand manager for a line of pharmaceutical products.

Made decisions regarding the amount to spend on advertising, promotions,

pricing for both retailers and consumers, product formulation, discounts,

and distribution for ten periods (one period = one year). Market value,

market share, and net income were used to determine how successful our

products were.

My products sold fairly well generating a positive net income and an

increase in market value and market share over the course of the

simulation.

Participated in another simulation called Capsim. Key tasks included:

Took the role of a division in a company (Research and Development,

Marketing, Production, Finance, Human Resources) that manufactured and sold

electronic sensors.

Managed Marketing Division and was responsible for the price, sales budget,

promotions budget, and sales forecast.

Our team ended up in first place out of five groups. While all the other

groups differed in the types of products sold, we were able to sell the

most overall and make the largest profit.
