Professional Work Experience

CTB/McGraw-Hill

Monterey, CA: 2005 to 2008

Development Editor and Supervisor. From home office, responsible for

supervising, co-writing, editing, tracking, and reporting on

assessment products; copyright and permission processes associated

with specific projects; and clear communication and integration of

these for several grades (elementary to secondary) with both the

customer and corporate representatives. Trained and supervised four

off-site team members in these same skills and expectations over

serial and simultaneous projects, each of us in separate Eugene home

offices.

Monterey, CA: 2000 to 2005

Editing Supervisor. Responsibilities included overseeing task

responsibilities in conjunction with editorial roles, training and

supervision of Style Editors (or copyeditors) in meeting corporate

performance requirements in all aspects of the Style Editors role (see

below); co-developing job descriptions and conducting interviews for

Editor I, II, and III, Quality Assurance, and managerial positions.

Style Editor. Responsibilities included application of language,

problem solving, and research skills to edit manuscripts-text and art-

and check proofs for factual correctness, grade-level appropriateness,

correct grammar, spelling, usage, mechanics, style, integration with

other materials developed for specific projects, and overall

presentation in standardized testing. Editing and reviewing from the

point of view of the student and client as well as development and

page production, while following client and corporate specifications

for readability, organization, design, format, and adherence to bias-

free guidelines.
