PROJECTS
Embedded Systems
. RTOS for a CNC Machine - Developed a RTOS in C for a CNC machine which
handled NetBIOS, UDP with IP and ARP packets communication between the
PC and PIC through Ethernet; stepper motor control; display on LCD
screen; PS/2 keyboard control; and data processing. Implemented the
entire protocol stack and drivers required for the CNC machine.
. Cooperative RTOS design using Semaphores - Implemented a RTOS in C for
an embedded system which performed context switching between
simultaneously active tasks. The scheduling technique designed in the
project used varying scheduling schemes under different circumstances
which improved the performances of the system by proper resource
utilization and relevant context switching.
. Implementation of Digital Systems on FPGA - Currently working on
implementing of various digital blocks like NCO and Digital filters on
FPGA
. Communication Node using PIC - A half-duplex channel using RS-232 <->
RS-485 protocol was built between a Communication node and a PC.
Interfaced DC motor, Text LCD, Speaker and RGB LED to the PIC.
Implemented software PWM which controlled the speed of the motor, the
sound from the speaker or the intensity of the color in the RBG LED.
Achieved simultaneous operation of more than one device at a time.
. Path Finder with a Metal Detector - Interfaced DC motor, IR
transmitter and receiver to 8051. Built a metal detector using copper
coil. The coding was done in assembly language.
COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE
. Pipeline Processor - Designed a six stage pipeline processor.
Recognized and solved hazards in the pipeline using data forwarding
and stalling. Supported varying length operands in the pipeline.
. Cache Memory Controller - Analyzed the change in Hit Rate due to
change in write strategy (Write Back, Write Through Allocate and Write
Through Non Allocate), block size of cache accesses and cache
associativity for a given function. Emulated cache memory through a C
program.
. DMA Controller Design - Designed a DMA Controller using tristate
buffer, latches, flip flops, counters and multiplexers. Controlled the
operation of the DMA through a State machine designed using counters
and flip flops. Simulation of this DMA was done in VHDL.
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
. Channel Estimation for CDM and FDM channel using Channel Sounding
technique - Designed an optimized and generalized MATLAB code such
that the estimations and analysis could be done for different
conditions with minimum changes in the code. Recognized the need of 3D
arrays to extend the code for multiple users present simultaneously.
. Polarization Diversity as applied to MIMO and Space Time Diversity -
The analysis of the performance of Polarization Diversity for both the
systems was done under different conditions in MATLAB and trends were
compared.
. BPSK Communication system with Linear Channel Coding - Designed
Channel Equalizers which worked on either the Minimum Distance
Decision Rule or the Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation Algorithm
in MATLAB. Achieved optimizations and generalization to some extent in
the Equalizer designs.
. Versatile Receiver Design - Implemented in Simulink and simulated in
VHDL a receiver which gave the frequency, amplitude and phase of an
input signal. The receiver was designed by Mr. Santanu Sarma,
Scientist at ISRO, Bangalore. Researched and tested different methods
to identify the best possible implementation for the filters,
multipliers and wave generator (CORDIC and Look up tables) in the
receiver.
COMPUTER NETWORKING
. Implemented projects such as Socket Programming in Java and Reliable
Data Transfer Protocols using C.
