NATIONAL SURVEY RESEARCH CENTER
January, 1998 to May, 2010: Senior Researcher
NSRC is Cleveland’s oldest marketing research firm, established in 1949. It serves a wide variety of
industries, but has enjoyed a core clientele in the transportation sector since 1989. During my tenure
with this firm, I oversaw or otherwise participated in completing over eight hundred research projects
in many industries. In 2005, NSRC was awarded a large multi-year contract to conduct satisfaction
research for transportation giant FedEx Services. I was chosen by NSRC’s president as the liaison for this
project, trained at FedEx headquarters, then returned to NSRC to launch and manage the project. Five
years and eighteen research modules later, NSRC’s relationship with FedEx Services is going strong.
Some other achievements include:
- Performed cluster analysis on behalf of Goodyear and Wal-Mart which dictated SKU
offerings in automotive department of all Super Wal-Mart stores
- Designed multiple conjoint analyses for Rubbermaid Home products which aided in
design stage of multiple products that are on shelves today
- Created building plans for company facilities and designed and constructed first web site
- Programmed surveys for CATI and Internet research panels
December, 1992 to December, 1997: Manager of Consumer Research
In my first years with NSRC, I graduated from calling in the phone room to managing the phone center
and its twenty employees. My duties included hiring, firing, supervision, and quality control measures,
as well as performing data analysis and reporting on many of the projects I oversaw. Various
responsibilities and achievements during that time included:
- Managed and reported on an annual usage tracking study spanning five years and
15,000 interviews
- Managed an in-person field study which involved over ten sites and 1,500 surveys
annually over four years. Hired, trained, and supervised all personnel used in field
- Managed the recruiting of participants for over fifty focus groups
- Contributed to numerous professional journal articles as well as three published
marketing research and competitive intelligence college texts
OHIO TURNPIKE COMMISSION
October, 1997 to September, 2007: Toll Collector, P.T.
My decade-long tour of duty with the Turnpike ran concurrent with my employment at NSRC. Although
part-time, I was a devoted employee of Interchange Cleveland/173 and handled the many facets of the job
with a sense of duty and responsibility. In addition to working the lanes, my various responsibilities
included:
- Handling radio traffic between the interchange and OTC dispatch in times of traffic
and weather emergencies
- Communicating with law enforcement and medical personnel during pursuits, vehicular
accidents, and medical emergencies on site
- Communicating and documenting hazardous load information as it entered and exited
the Turnpike
1
