Manufacturing Engineer

Responsible for the development/implementation of process and logistics for

the refurbishment of parts and subassemblies. Organizations that I

supported were the Burlington VT and East Fishkill NY IBM Manufacturing

sites.

. Project Manager

Managed detailed scope of several multi-year, large scale projects.

Participated in securing funding, preparing SOWs, coordinating

construction, and verifying completions. Projects were completed

successfully within schedule resulting in no impact to customer deliveries

- Managed $1M, two year major renovation with no interruption to department

deliverables.

- Led effort to establish new $500K building with different supplier.

Project spanned one year and resulted in eliminating FREON.

- Managed process to outsource two work areas. Developed process layouts

and ensured no interruption to work flow. Resulted in recovery of

manufacturing floor space.

- Managed a multiyear research project resulting from a safety incident

involving chemical processing of metal. Worked with consulting and

research companies to determine cause and prevention. Resulted in an

understanding of cause and change of procedure to prevent future

problems.

. Supply Chain Management Support

Advised Purchasing and customers to define and meet requirements.

- Designed pricing system for new part requests. Procurement response

time for customer was reduced from 5 weeks to 5 days.

- Advised Procurement on supplier negotiation which resulted in

multiyear contracts that equated to a 10% cost reduction.

- Developed, in conjunction with Legal, detailed Statements of Work to

prepare a final service contract (Time, Material and Fixed Price)

worth $3.8M.

- Developed Statement of Work standard for specific workload that

resulted in 20% less rework and negotiation with supplier.

. Manufacturing Process Subject Matter Expert and LEAN Expertise.

Developed chemical and mechanical techniques for refurbishment of parts

used in the maintenance and production equipment. Experienced in

implementation of LEAN concepts; PDCA, A3, VSM, JI/JBS and KYT. All

processes formally documented with developed JBS/JI to provide SOP. All

improvements contributed to improvement in JIT operations and reduction in

on-hand inventory.

- Led teams of operators to develop the best techniques for

implementation and the equipment needed for process efficiency.

- Identified incorrectly characterized waste and partnered with teams to

arrange a new layout to correct waste standards resulting in a safer

process meeting regulatory requirements

- Instituted new process to effectively process parts, which resulted in

a 15% annual savings rate.

- Identified a severe ergonomic issue related to operator lifting and

worked with a team of operators, fabrication personnel and the

customer to change the procedure and add mechanical assists.

- Developed process for scrap parts to be salvaged. Cost savings

implemented was $150K per year.

- Led LEAN teams of operators resulting in reduction of 4% in job error

rates and a 5% reduction in wasted floor space.

. Design and maintenance of chemical processes to refurbish parts with

minimal degradation
